I know some of you don't want to hear this but Elliott isn't a stone cold, 150%, guaranteed, book it now, place that $1,000,000 Vegas bet to be a stud.

That is true, of course, but he's about as guaranteed as they come because he's so well-rounded. He does so many things, and he's built for the part.

I have long wanted a compact RB with power and speed around here. Murray was too tall and fumbly, much like McFadden. I like little butterball guys like Ray Rice, Emmitt, Barry Sanders, and Marshawn Lynch. They fare better in the long run.

Without an improved defense it'd be nearly impossible to go 12-4, even with Zeke. I do think he'd be great behind that line though.

But think about it, in 2014 Dallas not only had the league's leading rusher by a mile, they also had the leagues top rated QB (both QB rating and compl %).
That has never happened before and most likely would not happen again.
392 carries in one season? 1845 yards? Romo with a 113 QB rating for the entire season in the SAME season?

Also, there were several miraculous endings to games in our favor that year.
21 point comeback win vs the Rams..late 4th qtr
Romo whirly move on Watt, then semi- Hail Mary to go to OT then beat Houston
Another game-winning drive vs the Giants--this time Bryant TD with 1 minute left
Interference call at end of Lions game giving us new life and game winning drive
etc

Dallas MUST improve on defense.

let's see, so Murray got $2 million per fumble.....Elliott gets $25 million for not fumbling 6 times...but could result in 6 TDs.....yeah, give me Elliott for $25 mil....

Just pointing out one of the myths you Elliott lovers love to trot out............. that Elliott would be some fresh legged stud making peanuts on a rookie deal compared to other TBs in the league.

Which goes nicely with another myth............ that apparently Elliott never once in his entire career at OSU put the ball on the carpet.

I am just question erod when he said Elliott comes at a reduced rate. He doesn't.

The team might also be better if they take Ramsey. You just don't know.

Ne he isn't, just as no player is.
But IO Zeke helps this team much more than Ramsey does.
JMO of course.

Ummm, he'd essentially be making nearly DOUBLE what Murray would have made.

Murray only had $12MM guaranteed on his deal. Elliott gets $25MM guaranteed the moment he's drafted.

Yes, but Murray was 7 years older than Elliott.

Imagine how fun it would be watching Zeke destroy LBS in the passing game, while protecting Romo like the Secret Service, and taking it to the house from 90 every now and again...

Clearly, the entire team would rally behind him, and wouldn't be shying away from our true strength/identity as a team - crushing opposing D's with an almost unfair running game...

Then again, Jalen Ramsey MIGHT pan out at CB!!

If you want a SB, it's quite evident what needs to happen...

Dallas MUST improve on defense.

Not only did we need some miracles with the NFL's best passer and rusher but....

We also had a defense that was near tops in the league in turnovers forced.

That fact conveniently gets left out.

Yes, but Murray was 7 years older than Elliott.

Doesn't change the point. You said Elliott comes at a reduced rate.

He doesn't. He's a Top Ten paid NFL TB the moment he gets drafted and would be making double what Murray was offered by the Cowboys and almost double what the highest paid TB got this year in free agency got.

So pound your chest at how awesome you think Elliott it and how the Cowboys should take him. But don't make things up to try to build support for your cause by saying things like Elliott comes pretty cheap. He does not.

Teams were playing catch up, because Romo was rocking it in his role of "not having to carry the entire team on his back"

Every aspect of the team was better in '14, which is arguably due to the time of possession ground and pound football we played that year..

So, we should just not take anyone because No. 4 picks are highly paid?

What player in the draft will touch the ball more for Dallas than Elliott? What player will be more intricately involved? Nobody.

Let me ask you this: How nice will it be to FINALLY have a running back that doesn't fumble? That's worth $25 million to me right there. Murray, Randle, Dunbar, McFadden......sick of it.

Yes, but Murray was 7 years older than Elliott.

Come on erod, we all know age, injury history and the amount of carries prior to free agency had nothing to do with the decision to move on from Murray. It was the position solely that led the front office to move on from him.

Yes, we should pass up the 4th pick and not take anyone. Then maybe jump back into the draft around the 17th pick.

Yippee! Another Zeke thread that references 2014 and when Emmitt was here! I never thought of it like that!

Also how in the world are they going to trade up to get Lawson and then still have a 3rd round pick to take a CB? LOL. If they move up from the high 2nd round into the first, that third is probably part of the price.

Like most of the 'Seek Zeke!' Crowd, they haven't thought things through that far.

I fully agree, although I think we're wearing out the forum with Zeke threads. (I'm culprit #1)

An elite back with fresh tires at a relatively reduced rate behind a top offensive line in Romo's waning days.

It's pretty clear-cut to me.

When does Top 10 pay for the running back position mean "reduced rate"?

Actually it was all wrapped up into the analysis. But you guys can continue to ignore what was said by Jones at that time. That the team simply did not feel they got a significant return on investing a lot IN THE TAILBACK POSITION because they felt the position took a beating. They had interest in Lamar Miller who has relatively little wear and tear on his body and is only 25 years old but they bowed out when his price tag was around $14MM guaranteed. It was too rich for their blood because again, they were clear the prior year that they will simply not invest a lot of money into the TB position.

If they take Elliott, they've clearly done a 180 on that policy. They very well may reverse their position. But in the end, if they take him, he's not some rookie RB you are going to get massive production from at a reduced rate. You are paying him Top 10 TB money.

That's not some theory or guess. It's reality.
