Watching a highlight video of Marion "The Barbarian", and man was he so fun to watch with his short time here. Just wondering where you guys would place him among Dallas all time running backs. I know he's no Smith, Dorsett, or Walker, but it was great while it lasted. Who can ever forget the longest 2 yard run against the Pats?

I wouldn't. He wasn't part of the team long enough and probably shouldn't have been for as long as he was. I miss his goal line running though.

It was fun while it lasted. He ran like every carry was his last one and he paid the price for it, but he got paid on it at least. That probably should have been done by someone else and not us, but that's not a discredit to him.

Oh come on. When he was here he gave it his all every play. No, he's not a Smith, Dorsett, or Walker like i said earlier, but he at least gave the game better then Duane Thomas ever did. Tell me Julius Jones was better.

I loved the way he played. I just wouldn't have him as an "all time" player for this team. I also added that I miss his running near the endzone.

He is what put us over the top in 2007.

We were a very finesse team for the most part. Then we put that guy in the game and teams just couldn't defend us. You play the pass and you have a 230lb running back sticking his helmet right in your chest.

He was an absolute beast but once he got his money he started making business decisions and eventually fizzled out.

Barber is little more than a minor footnote in the history of the franchise. :(

I think he just broke down. This is what he would have seen on the deal going forward if he hadn't been cut:
2011: $4.25 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due in June)
2012: $5.75 million
2013: $6.25 million
2014: $7 million, 2015

While 13/14 were not years he was ever going to see it would be a pretty crappy business decision to play like he did in 2010. The health just wasn't there.

I like Barber I would not list him as one of the best backs. I would put him with Newhouse and Garrison

Would you rate Reeves ahead of him?

Pretty much. He was a fun player to watch but he's not an "all time" franchise RB. He was a good player while it lasted, but it didn't last long.

Likely not. I loved Dan Reeves he was both player and coach at the same time but in my view I would put Barber ahead

He's one of my all time favorite Cowboys. Definetely not an all time great but man that 2007 was the best season I had seen around here since I was a little kid and he just did some epic things that year.

I was at the Patriots game when he made that crazy run. It happened about 30 yards in front of me.

As I said Like Barber and your right 2006 and 2007 were very good productive seasons.

I rank the Cowboy running backs as follows:

1. Emmitt Smith
2. Tony Dorsett
3. Herschel Walker
4. Don Perkins
5. Duane Thomas
6. Walt Garrison
7. Calvin Hill
8. Preston Pearson
9. Marion Barber
10. Julius Jones

I'd put Barber in the top 5. Thomas was a cancer. Didn't see enough in my lifetime of Perkins, Garrison, Hill, and Pearson to make a call. I became a fan in 1977. I had heard much about Thomas though.

ron springs is who i'd compare him to.

barber was a lot of fun for that short span where he could really play with reckless abandon.

Despite Barber's reputation to use his head as a battering ram (which he did frequently) a lot of people forget how NASTY his stiff arm was. Geez, sometimes it looked like he was punching OLBs...
