I think Rod defense LB is pretty important. Looking at the core in Tampa Bay and with the Bears. I was hoping to keep one of the 2 Durant or Carter but does not look like that will happen. I do love the fact in Hutchins we have a guy who can play all 3 spots and do so very well and should only get better with experience.

Carter would have been a great guy to bring back if not for his injury history. Going into the season with three injury-prone starters isn't a great recipe for success. I'm thinking this was one of those things that just wasn't meant to be.

Durant is a nice 43 LB but those guys are easy to find. He is very replaceable in this defense. Carter drove Marinelli nuts and he would never talk much about Carter.

Carter had some big moments but he allowed plenty of big moments too. He won't be difficult to replace either.

I bet the coaches like Hitchens better than Carter right now. Lee is coming back. Rolando will probably sign here again and then there is the draft.

LB is going to be fine. DL is what needs bodies.

Durant was a captain on the team, well-respected in the locker room. He played fast and physical and he always knew his assignments. His dependability made him the antithesis of Bruce Carter. When he got hurt, the defense and Death Ro's play dropped off. Him and Ro played with great chemistry and Ro commented on how him and Durant just clicked when he came to Dallas. This is a good vet LB that should have been resigned. Doomsday, Keith Rivers has a reputation in Buffalo and Cincy has being one of the softest linebackers in the league. We need a better answer thru FA.
I agree completely about Murray and Dez, but Durant ehh not so much.

I was hoping to keep Durant or Carter, losing both sucks. Right now the LB core starters in my view will be Lee, McClain and Hitchens. I think that is a good group but I also think more depth will need to be added. I think Dallas will fill that the same way they did when we brought in Durant, mid level FA

I hate we lost Durant and Carter, it makes us much thinner at LB but do I think Dallas can over come this? Yes. Dallas will be active in FA as well it may not be big names but then again Durant was not a big time player he was a mid level FA and in this defense he played very well for us. I hate we lost him. I do trust Rod to be able to get guys in here and work them into the system just as he did with Durant. I have nothing negative to say about Durant but what is done is done and Dallas will move forward. What do want me to do melt down and cry over it? Grow up

Hey I like Durant. You don't hear me bad mouthing our players and I wanted him back. That said he's played a total of 16 games in two years for Dallas and in this 4-3 system linebackers are replaceable. Look at what Dallas has done with Durant, McClain, and Hitchens. Nobody expected those guys to play as well as they did.

Thankfully we have Rivers. Remember, don't panic. That's what everyone was telling me when I predicted we lose all our free agents.

Need Ro now.

I would love to see Carter back as well. Slow learner but when he picks up a system, he is near elite. I could easily see him being a probowl caliber player next year.

Actually, Durant wasn't all that great, either, until this past year, which makes me think he is a slow learner, too.

I don't know about Durant being that physical but he did have athleticism and a good head on his shoulders, so all-in-all, I would have liked to retain him. However, he did get hurt a good bit and Marinelli's 43 LB's just aren't that hard to find. Look at Hitchens stepping in as a 4th round pick and playing extremely well. It isn't that difficult. It is a run/read/hit scheme that most athletic LB's can play. I'm sure the team had a ceiling for Durant because they can just draft a young, athletic guy to do about the same thing as Durant except he's 7 years younger and about a third cheaper. Plus, I trust Marinelli and the Dallas personnel dept completely.

It was the same thing with Jimmy Johnson. The LB's got no respect or money and the DL got a ton of both. The LB's are easy to replace unless they're special and Durant and particularly Carter definitely aren't special players.

The defense will be fine without either.

I don't like losing him, but his best position was the weakside spot that Lee will play if we re-sign McClain. I think it might have been an either/or situation between him and McClain, and I'd rather have McClain. If Dallas loses both, though, I sure don't like a LB corps of Lee, Hitchens, Rivers. Getting Carter back would help, but he was third in line for me.

Yeah, no Rolando would change things a little but still, Lee would just play in the middle and they could find another WLB. As long as they're fast and athletic, Marinelli can get them playing well. Somebody like Lavonte David is the prototypical WLB in this system. Shazier would have been too.

Kendricks or Shaq Thompson in this draft would fit well, but neither in the first round though please.

However, I do think that Ro re-signs in Dallas.
