He allegedly fell because he is as slow as molasses (5.0 - 5.3 40-yard dash) although others have said he plays faster on the field.

I think he is in a competition with Fowler and Hoyte for a position as STer and short-yardage ILB.

So is Hoyte actually confirmed?

In all honesty, I don't know for sure. I thought I saw his name in the sticky thread of UDFAs.

I haven't seen anything confirming Hoyte.

Parham ran a 4.9, which isn't a great time but you can't argue with his production at Virginia

I bet his football speed is much quicker.. You can't really measure up game time speed..

Sounds like it might be a good signing. I can't believe he ran that slow though. A corpse can break 5.0.

This is the classic route to making an NFL roster for a UDFA and low round draft pick.

The thing going against him is you usually like your STers to have a bit better speed than that.

I line in South Carolina, ACC Country, and I've seen enough of Kai Parham to feel certain he'll make the 53 man roster barring injury.

Parham is an inside linebacker, but I remember one draft guide suggesting be had some similarities to the Steelers Joey Porter and might fit best on the outside of a 3-4 defense.

I don't know what our plans are for Parham, but if he shows the versatility to handle backing up at all four linebacker positions, it makes the case for keeping him that much stronger.

Who does he have to beat out?

Ryan Fowler.

If we were really high on Fowler, why bring in Akin Ayodele, who has never even played inside, to start alongside Bradie James?

Nothing against Fowler, but I think he's just been churned off the roster.

What do you think?
I think 8 free agents + 8 draft picks (I know we've lost a few FA's) is going to make it tough to make the final 53 on any UDFA we signed.

Fowler played well on STs last year. He also demonstrated the ability to play ILB in the 3-4 at the pro level in the Rams game - definitely seems to have a nose for the ball and packs a good wallop when he gets there. I wouldn't write him off and probably prefer him over Shanle and Thornton.

Don't forget this little tidbit:

Who is UVA's Head Coach?

That's right....Al Groh! The same Al Groh that learned in Parcells' system and brought Dallas one Chris Canty.

Something tells me that a guy named Al and a guy named Bill had a discussion or two or three.

hey i havent even seen you and i bet you cannot break a 5.0!

i hope you are more than a corpse!

I train really hard and after my knee surgery my speed dropped from 4.7 to right around 5.0 its no easy feat.
