I think they can resign Leary if they want to, there will be a ton of cap space available next year.
And the same argument applies to Collins, he is a FA after 2017. If he is better than Leary and Leary will get a huge payday, won't Collins get even more?
And wouldn't the same logic apply to his trade value? If he is good enough to start in Dallas and start over Leary, why would he not have trade value? He was considered a top 15 pick in his draft year and he hasn't lived up to that IMO, but he is the same player but with more experience. No team would give up a #3 for that?
Haha, what's up with you and Leary? Leary is a gem, he's great, but this is the NFL and sometimes you have to make choices. I also think you're underestimating Collins a bit, he was on IR this year.
Do you not remember him playing against Seattle at 22 years old? Came out on the 2nd level and completely leveled Bobby Wagner, then threw Earl Thomas into the front row of the bleachers.
Leary is playing great, but Collins is legitimate blue chip prospect, and has better feet especially when we run zone.
It's possible he becomes the 4th All Pro on this line. I wouldn't trade him for a 3rd round pick.
And I'd like to keep Leary too, but right now we have two starting corners who will be FA, a starting WR, two safeties, and possibly additional DL. I'm pretty sure we're already going to be forced to restructure just to get under the cap in 2017, before we even sign anyone. We have money in 2018/2019, but we also have Martin's contract and will figure out what to do with Collins.
In a perfect world, I'd keep them both. But it's not wise to sign a G for that much when, in all likelihood, he's going to be the backup when Collins gets a little more live fire.
