My big fear about this game was the DL but Irving, McClain and Mayowa stepped up.

Games like this from Irving are so fun to watch, but the crazy thing is that he was a Practice Squad guy for KC last year that Dallas signed away – and even then he only got significant snaps in six games last year. If – and it’s a huge if – he shows the same level of improvement next year as he did this year you are talking about a Pro Bowl caliber player. No way to predict, but fun to think about.

Mayowa had his second good game in a row and it was badly needed. He is also improving against the run, which is big. I doubt he justifies his salary but if he can be a solid backup to DLaw at RDE I’ll be completely happy with that. You can’t bank on a big FA signing at DE or getting the right draft pick next year, plus I don't count on anything from Gregory or Tapper. But Mayowa being a solid backup would be very helpful.

Defense: getting Claiborne back will make a big difference on this team. Winston and Evans are elite talents and we did well overall, but having a #1 CB back with the others like Carr and Brown playing against lesser WRs will be a huge help. The DL was mess for the first four games of the season until DLaw came back. Claiborne returning will have the same impact.

Sean Lee has 28 tackles in the last two games. Remember that for every post you have seen this year saying Romo is made a glass, injured every year and should be cut – two years ago all those posts were about Sean Lee.

I guess Jeff Heath isn't an Internet whipping boy anymore either.

Offense: Does Dak Prescott still suck? Does Dez Bryant? Dez caught every catchable ball thrown to him in this game, this is exactly why you can’t overreact to one Division game in the snow against an excellent defense.

I love the QB draw at the goal line. I always have and now we will get to see it regularly for the next decade.

It wasn’t popular on this board, but if DMC and Dunbar are healthy (and they look to be now), they add more than Morris does. Both could contribute going forward.

Remember when the Jet sweep was cool? That was October and now its December. I don’t see Lucky Whitehead on this team next year.

Jason Witten could play until he is 40 if he wanted to.

Other random notes – the headbutt penalty on Jameis Winston is very likely the weeniest penalty ever called in NFL history. My six year old takes harder hits than that on the playground.

Zeke jumping into the Salvation Army kettle was cool, but TO was the first Cowboy to do it.

Yes they were. I shudder to think where we would be without him right now.

TO didn't jump into the kettle, he deposited his TD ball into it after scoring. At least that's my recollection of it.

Yep, mobile QB gives defense something else to think about.

That's my hope. There are UDFA versions of Lucky in every draft. Hold your breath waiting for a turn over every time he touches the ball, not to mention some of the questionable decisions in the return game.

Romo is much older than Lee. If Romo was 30 instead of 36 this would be a different conversation and I'd probably be on the opposite side of the fence.

Always look forward to your thoughts each week. I agree with everything you mentioned, especially the headbutt penalty. Even as a Cowboys fan, I thought that penalty was pretty weak.

Yeah I was about to say the same thing, but I guess it's the same idea (interacting w/the SA prop)

It's not hard to picture Irving getting more reps in during games in view of that game he turned in Sunday night vs. the Bucs. He strikes me as a budding Leon Lett -- and how appropriate is that, considering he's being coached by him as well?

It does seem like many of those players that guys here were knocking in the past managed to distinguish themselves last night. Crazy.

Can't say as I'm sure one way or the other whether or not Lucky Whitehead might be released next year or not. The jet sweep should probably be given a rest, though, seeing as how it's already being sniffed out as soon as he steps into the lineup, though.

It's ironic how Heath's performances now tend to belie the impressions of what many had of him in the past (and even now by some.)

Dak redeemed himself last night with his high percentage of completions and some crucial runs for first downs. Glad for him that he did.

It was a funny scene seeing Ezekiel jumping into that Salvation Army pot -- both Emmitt Smith and others seemed as amused as I was.

TO just deposited the ball in the bin, Zeke was much more creative, love it!

Irving just needs to look for consistency but his playing time should increase, he earned it yesterday.

Mayowa has looked better, perhaps that benching did him some good.

Fans always overreact, some are worse than others but it is just part of fandom.

Nice write up, love some Kaiser Rolls!

The only uncatchable ball that Dak threw sailed way out of bounds on 2nd and 16. I guess you could say that was intended for Dez.

The one in the end zone to Dez was catchable. Dez still had a great game though.

Catchable yea but it was still a very poorly thrown ball. If that balls on the outside, it's a touchdown.

Good post.

8 for 82 (10.2 avg), Zero TDs from Dez is possession receiver numbers. They need the #1 WR to come up with the TD ball that hit his hands and they need bigger plays. A 10.2 avg is well below the season average for #1 WRs. His own career average is over 14.

TO just dropped a ball in the Kettle.

Grimes is one of the better CBs in the NFL, on the end zone play he had position, got his hand on the ball and knocked it down. That isn't a catchable ball.

Some of that is the scheme, some of that is playing with a new (and rookie) QB and some of that is playing through injuries. I don't think very many observers would criticize Dez for his play yesterday.
