Im in Niner country and alot of their fans feel the same way most feel about the Romo deal. Too much

I'm watching the Giants (baseball) game and sports net central just said Kap could make "up to 126 mil" on this 6 year deal.

Horrible deal.

He's not a good enough passer to warrant that type of money.

He definitely is not a top echelon passer, however, his career QB rating is a very decent 93.8 so I wouldn't exactly called him chopped liver either.

Our guy has been fulfilling his deal. I feel much better about Romo than many a 49er fan feels about Kaper. Lots of Red/Gold dead money! See people. All the teams are going to deal with this. And Dallas just may have a guy playing QB on a rookie deal for a few years. It would be smart to not backlog some of the big deals when you are paying a rookie deal QB. That way we can keep players and play in FA

Romo's first extension (2009) was very similar to the deal Marc Bulger got, about $10M/year for 6 years. What a great extension in retrospect. I agree with what you are saying about cap management, but it has been tough for JJ to not put all his eggs in the "win now at all costs" basket.

Maybe he's turning that corner though...

I think he is. I agree with you

I guess winning is overrated. It's about how you look doing it now.

Or how you perform while being on a winning team.

I'm sure whoever lined up under center for the Cardinals would appreciate your support though.

If you choose to ignore individual performance, have at it. Makes no difference to me.

He can play, don't get me wrong. He's not just awful all around.

I just don't think he's shown to be much more than an average passer. He protects the ball well, which is a major plus but I just can't say that I see a guy who's top tier and that's top tier money.

As of now he's proven to be a good game manager that provides the big play with his athleticism. As a passer however I think he's got a lot of work ahead of him.

More than anything I think he's full of himself and not sure he's the type of guy who is going to keep putting the work in consistently, especially if his team stumbles a bit and they aren't competing for a championship.

I would take Kaepernick over Romo right now. and so would every GM in the NFL other than Jerry Jones. Kaepernick will win a Super Bowl with the 49ers. Romo will not with the Cowboys.

Kaepernick plays for the better team so it's not really apples to apples.

I think a better comparison would be if either guy would win a championship if they swapped teams.

You taking the efficiency ratings or traditional QB rating?

efficiency in those same games his traditional rating was just as bad. Heres another eye popping stat Wilson only had 3 games with 20 or more completetions. The highest being 25. Had 11 games where avg complete was under 8.5 yrds and had 1 game where avg completion was 4 yrds.

Dallas had the same type of QB before. His name was Quincy Carter. Maybe not to that extent but same type of QB still

As of a few minutes ago Spotrac had it as:

6 years, $126M, $61M guaranteed.

I am sure the first couple of years are team friendly in non guarantee salary but I figure the back end of that deal his cap charge is probably 30+ million a year.

Agreed. He basically a one or two read QB at this stage of his career.

Somehow I can't muster up the LOLs for a franchise that just went to three conference title games and a Superbowl, and just locked up their young QB.

We could only wish we were in their position right now.

You got that right. I hate that franchise but I'm jealous of them too. They've gone to places that I can only dream about.

Average completion or attempt?

As far as any sort of cut off in completions that's not really something I think says much.

He's on a team that passes less frequently than almost the rest of the league.

I know that in itself removed some of the burden on him but given the opportunities he's had he's produced.

He has a career rating over 100 and has 52 TDs to 19 INTs. His body of work is impressive for a 2nd year player, IMO

Dallas had the same type of QB before. His name was Quincy Carter. Maybe not to that extent but same type of QB still

Quincy sucked. He was a guy who could run but if forced to pass he would fail.

Wilson can pass and also presents the ability to run. Wilson has 20 more TDs and about 20 less INTs than carter had for his career, with a coupe fewer starts to do it. His completion percentage is also about 8% higher.

I don't think this comparison is anywhere in the realm of accurate.

I think Wilson will be good. We can disagree on it.

I'd guess years 1 and 2 are guaranteed. Maybe the 3rd year.

I don't think any team would put guaranteed base salaries at the end of a contract.
