Keeping the emotions in check

Given the heat of this rivalry, the words that have been tossed back and forth not just this week but over the years, there can be a tendency to get caught up in the emotion.

Wade Phillips went back to 2007 and mentioned the first game of the year as a personal eye opener about the series' intensity. But it was actually the second game when Bradie James and Keith Davis had unnecessary roughness penalties and Kevin Burnett was flagged for taunting in the rematch at the Meadowlands.

"I knew it was that kind of game, the NFC East, but it was more emotional than it should be after a play," Phillips said. "We took care of that at the time and haven't had anything since. And I don't expect it again.

In the five meetings with the Giants since Phillips has been coach, the Cowboys have been penalized 41 times for 352 yards and the Giants have been penalized 31 times for 260 yards.

The first meeting this year, however, was rather cordial. Both teams were flagged four times; the Cowboys for 50 yards and the Giants for 40.

Clearly one thing this team does not need to do is get the stupid penalties. Playing with emotion is one thing playing out of control can cost you

totally agreed, we need to be focused in that game, let our action speak for itself on the field, then get the giants gnats so rattled that they start pointing fingers at each other, hollering at each other etc

then at the end of the game we can ask them, do you respect us now and enjoy missing the playoffs if we beat them sunday

If Dallas walks out with a win Jacobs and team will have a lot of things shoved in their face and not just from the Cowboys but from the NY media. :)

Seriously, **** the Giants. I don't give a **** if they respect us or not. If we win the game, the satisfaction of laughing at all of their fans will be all I need.

Same here I just want the win. I am the type of person who does show respect to other teams and their accomplishment but if others do not want to show the Cowboys respect that is their problem.

I agree with you, you show respect and they should show respect back,
but if they dont want to, thats their problem, but when jacobs says something like he hates our fans, all cowboys fans and he jumped on our star, thats disrespect and he is asking for it;

I agree he is but as I said Jacobs and the Giants will have a world of problems should they drop this game this weekend.

I am sure hoping they do lose, that will be sweet, i hardly ever visit a teams board after they lose against us and post something on their board, but i sure will if we beat them

I might even try to figure out how to send a message to big mouth jacobs if giants lose;

Honestly while I don't disagree with you I think about this win and what it does for us more than any negitive suffered by Jacobs and the Giants. Just being honest. I want that 3 game lead on the Giants and the 1 game hopefully 2 game lead on the eagles with 4 more to go after this weekends games.

me too, come game time, its just the win baby, but would be fun to poke some fun back at jacobs

i did find out yes that brandon jacobs went to college with jay ratliff and thats why they are friends

and it will be like icing on the cake if we knock them out of the playoffs with that loss if we beat them, and they know it

because like you say, if we do beat them, the giants will be totally desperate agaisnt their game with the eagles the following week, so if we can win this game and the next one, and the giants beat the eagles the following week, will be sweet, then we have like you say 3 games up on giants and 2 games up on eagles;

Do phantom calls like we saw in the 2007 playoff game count as stupid penalties?

Honestly, I dont remember those phantom calls now, because i saw the game on tape like 3 times, and it hurt you know. I kinda have most of it blocked out of my mind.

No because that is out of the teams control however there were some senseless mistakes that we could control and didn't.

Oh there were several.

DeMarcus Ware sack/fumble negated by bogus offsides penalty on 3rd down...Giants later score a TD on that drive

Awful, awful call on Romo for intentional grounding in 4th qtr

There were others too

Well, the fix will definitely be on for this game. The refs will do everything in their power to help the Giants win.

The Jets are struggling, and so are the Giants as of now...not good for the largest TV market in the country. But the rescue effort is on its way...

I'm sure Goodell has instructed the refs to keep this one as close as possible with some phantom calls.

I've heard that there is holding on virtually every play, but look for it to be called if the Cowboys have a long completion down the field, or if Felix breaks a long run.

In the meantime, the Giants will hold Spencer, like every other team has this year, with the benefit of no calls.

Completely bogus personal foul call on Bigg for blocking Strahan about three second before the whistle blew. :mad:

Maybe playing with high emotion would be a good reversal for the Cowboys, they normally make plenty of stupid penalties while playing without emotion.
