Finally got around to watching it. Im about half way through and Im coming up on Tet. So far Ive been totally engrossed

Im glad that its not a rehashing of Civil War. Civil War was great in roping you in with a time traveler effect, making you feel apart of the time period. Vietnam seems to draw you more into the social upheaval and cultural changes of the era.

However, like Civil War, it does well of painting a broad picture of the war. Not focusing its attention to just the battlefield, but painting a vivid picture of politics and social movements of the time as well

Watched several episodes a few weeks and it kept me glued on the couch. It was 100% engrossing to say the least.
I was shocked at the folly of analytics by McNamara and Westmorland. I always knew " body count" was a big thing, but I never knew how far it went.

Did you see the part where they put all that data into a computer to see when they were going to win, amd the computer said " you won in 1965" lol

Brother, I adore Ken Burns

He deserves a thread so bad. Love that you created one.

To the Zone — Darth was a Falujah Marine. He headed the way for 3ID. We drew his Bradleys a year later.

Marine, you led the way and I hope we did you warriors justice.

I adore Ken Burns, but I adore what you and 3rd ID did more for us.

I’ll always have your back, Darth. Spent some time in the Green Zone with some Marines. We all wanted to kill the orderlies LOL

Nope, didn't see that part. I watched the episodes, Resolve, The river Styx, this is what we do, things fall apart and weight of memory as well as bits and pieces of others. Weight of Memory was a favorite. Thought I was somewhat educated on the Vietnam War but after watching this, guess not.

3rd Marines actually specializes in jungle warfare. We litterally trained for Fallujah in JWTC in Okinawa ( Jungle Warfare Training Center.

Having said that we borrowed a tremendous amount from the Viet Cong both from the war and in the years and decades afterwards. Marine tactics in years that followed had the feeling of hybrid standard infantry and guerrilla. Add emphasis on ambush's and small unit reconnaissance with tradition assult and defensive tactics. I also feel it went along way in the advancement of the MEUSOC of making units capable of both infantry operations and special operations. We were actually MEUSOC when we went into Iraq before Fallujah and did a great deal of the recon for operation in the months before

Brother, 11th ACR owes you so much. We went in in 2005-2006 and did damage control from what you crazy ****s did :D

3rd Infantry Division also held down with y’all. We got their Brads. We were also assigned to Gen Casey in 05-06.

Still, you Marines made it easier for us. And I formed a bond with three Marines from a light unit (they were rolling 113’s) that got hit pretty hard. I was with a couple in the Green Zone while we got bandaged up. Myself from Check Point 4-1, them from Rte Cross Sabers.

I love Marines. Our unit worked with y’all when it was still ING/IA. We all babysat them. Dude, we watched them drop an RPG out of the barrel of a tube, not but 10 meters from us and one of our Brads. This was when we first hit FOB Liberty. We were like “is this what these guys are all about?”. One of our dismounts cold cocked their guy as he laughed about it.

KO’d him. Freeman. Man, if I could tell you what our beloved Freeman went through. He’s still alive, but a mess.

Anyways, we adore the Marines, especially those of you who fought with 3rd ID in Fallujah. You guys laid the scunion, brother!

Ok quick about current USMC MOS's
When I was in 0351 was antitank assaultman, and you basically trained with identifying enemy tanks, LAWs/Dragon/TOWs as well as TNT, Det cord and C4. Wasn't aware they separated them into 2 MOS, with antitank being 0352 and demo/assault/SMAW being 0351.
When did they change this?

Don’t know, Marine. I was a dirty 11M in the Army. I’m sure Darth will know :)

Im not sure but it was before I went in. 0352 was designated as TOW gunner and 0351 being SMAW/ Demo Assultman

In fact I think they only trained TOW in one company at ITB
