Cowboys S Ken Hamlin on the drop off between the first- and second-team defense: "Young guys have to step up a little bit. We need to get them to pick up a few things a little quicker than they are."

I'm in before the Ken Hamlin hate comes flowing like the River Nile.

He's right - and I think they'll rise to the occasion this year. Can't wait to see the non-base defensive packages unleashed.

It's hard to argue with Hamlin on this point. There is a pretty obvious drop off in the abilities from starters to backups. Considering the injuries/crap in the 2ndary last year, these young guys need to be ready.

True, rookies have to step up some, but before too long they generally hit a wall. So, the vets have to keep the rookies in line and show them how its done.

I agree but will take it a step farther. It's not just the wide gap in abilities between our starters and backups, it's how bad they look in comparison to the other team's scrubs. With the exception of the Titans game our scrubs are worse than the other teams' scrubs.

He is right, but he's got to lead by example first.

Yep. Need to stop bouncing off of tackles and dropping INTs first, THEN he can start pointing fingers at others.

Kind of like the fumble against the Ravens that kind of screwed us out the season and our last game in dallas stadium ?

Ah, this kind of attitude just goes to show me that voting 4 in the confidence poll was the right thing to do. Thanks Kenny.

Yeah, I don't think Hamlin stepped up too much or wowed too many fans last year, especially in December.

Hamlin was the quarterback of the secondary and aligned everyone properly. For a team that is prone to dumb penalties, sloppy play and missed assignments it's shuddering to think how stupid our backups and other secondary players must be. How many busted coverage assignments can we expect in the first month of the season?

I'll take 15 for $500.00, Bob.

Yeah because every safety in the NFL makes every single interception and every single tackle.

Hamlin misses an inordinate amount of tackles though

Hamlin is right about what he's saying here, without a doubt, but he also needs to step his game up quite a bit and lead by example.

Are you serious? How many INTs has he dropped since mid season of 2008? All he has to do is make ONE open field tackle of the last 2 running plays vs Baltimore. Just ONE. Hamlin was still bouncing off tackles in preseason. The failed fumble recovery was a fluke, but what a dumbarsed play (jump on the ball than roll over and flip it back to the opposing team).

If he's going to point fingers at underachievers, he better realize that his play has been less than stellar too.
