Another Jones to backup MB3?

KEVIN JONES OUT IN MOTOWN?

Posted by Mike Florio on March 13, 2008, 3:32 p.m.
We recently heard a rumor that, if the Lions had signed running back Julius Jones, running back Kevin Jones would have been cut.
We’ve now been told that Kevin Jones is telling teammates that he has been released.
The rumor/report is not yet confirmed. Stay tuned.

Being running backs named Jones is an affliction.

Guy can't stay healthy, but you'd think they'd try and get one more year out of the him. I think this is his last year on the rookie contract.

I would not mind picking him up he wasn't used at all at detriot and I thought we would get him in the draft instead of JJ.

truth be told, by the time you get to the #3 back, does it really matter?

I don't see any reason to get Kevin Jones he is no better than the RB we just let go. Dallas is better off looking to the draft for a RB than going after another avg back.

Is my memory accurate that this is the guy Dallas originally wanted after that boneheaded trade out of the first round that could have netted Steven Jackson?

well our pass protection skills kicked in cause we didn't tender him an offer. he's a UFA we may or may not resign. heard some scuttlebutt he's a goner from the 'boys, so that's a good question for him in maybe miami. :)

Todd Archer, of The Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys did not tender a contract to RB Tyson Thompson. Thompson is now an eligible free agent.

If Dallas had drafted Jackson I wonder if they would have drafted Barber the next season. I wonder if both would still be on the team because both would be wanting big contracts. One move can change a lot.

Jackson is good, but Dallas still netted two guys in return. Jackson's contributions have not been so great compared to what Julius Jones and Marcus Spears have given Dallas. It is pretty even at this point. It may favor Jackson from this point forward since Julius is now gone.

When talking a #3 back I would rather look to late rd draft or UDFA. As a 3rd RB you are not going to see much time at all and in many games will not even be on the active roster.

We didn't tender him. He's now an UFA.

Parcells will probably sign him since he was the guy he really liked in that draft. ;)

Correct. Jerry tried like heck to trade back up for Kevin Jones.

I'd be in favor of this signing. He was slowed by injuries, but when healthy he has all the tools to be a great compliment to MB3.

It needs to be said though, he grew up an Eagles fan and leading up to he draft didn't have many kind words for Dallas.

Can't say as I agree with that. Jackson got derailed last year due to an injury, but he got 2,334 yards from scrimmage in 2006, which is one of the best lines in NFL History for a running back. Jones and Spears turned out to be JAGs.

Dallas and Buffalo both lost out on that trade, but the Rams won by doing nothing other than watching and waiting.

per KFFL,,,,,,,Lions | K. Jones says team will release him
Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:02:47 -0700

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones said Thursday, March 13, that he was informed by the Lions that the team will release him. "They told me this morning that they were going to release me," Jones said. "Yeah, I was surprised. I was in two weeks ago and saw the staff and (president Matt) Millen and everything was OK. Two weeks later, they told me I was getting released."

That's his problem. He can't stay healthy.

if vet mnimum i'm ok with it. i don't want to be in a position where if barber gets hurt, we have 2 rookies on the roster now.
