I would be ok with Jones on vet minimum but still think when talking a 3rd RB you are looking at a guy who in many games will not even dress for the game. Kevin Jones at least to my knowledge does not return kicks or punts and as a 3rd back would not get any carries heck it is hard to balance 2 RB's and seeing to it that they get enough carries let alone 3 RB. I think if Dallas can take a RB in the 1st day of the draft I would be ok with him being put into a starting situation if need be. Unlike other position in Football RB tend to show you their ability from the get go because it is a position or reaction and vision.

He will want more than the vet minimum. But that doesn't change the fact we do need a vet in here so we don't have two rooks behind MB3.

both good points and point 2 is why he probably will get #2 or #1 somewhere in the land of desperation out there.

as for kick off and returns, we'll find someone.

I tend to have more faith in rookie RB, it is a position that you see the talent from the get go or not and given the talent of this years draft I would be comfortable with most of the top backs in this draft. I think when you look at a 3rd RB he has to bring something extra to the table as in special teams and I think that goes for most guys who are 2nd or 3rd on a depth chart. If K. Jones could return kicks or punts then at least it would help justify getting him but paying him even a vet minimum is a decent amount for very little in return.

I'd like to bring K Jones here for a reasonable salary.

I'd prefer not having 2 rookies behind MBIII.

But I'm not sure how bad Jones' injury was.

Alright J. Jones we have been quiet for free agency so far, but here is the chance to get a running back to compliment Marion Barber. Kevin Jones is now on the market after being released by Detroit. Let's get busy if we can sign him then we can concentrate on CB's & WR's in the draft.

Yea he has been hurt but damn he is young and is a good back. Stop messing with old guys lets finally for once sign someone young and can be with us for awhile.....

Getting Kevin Jones would roughly be the equivalent of keeping Julius Jones, so I don't see the point.

When he is healthy he is a very dangerous player; he had 1,000 yard season (though that was ages ago) and he is a duel threat ( is a very good catcher out of the backfield) but he seems like he is always injured.

IF he is healthy he is worth looking at but at this point I think he is going to be injury prone for his career.

I still think K Jones> J Jones, but F Jones > K Jones, but what do I know?

Unless he would come very cheap, I would not consider that. This is a great draft class, so I would go there.

His 2008 salary is jumping to $2,370,000 from 2007 $510,000. Would a team pick him up off waivers for a 1yr 2.370(2.5125 because of a roster bonus) contract? With the money being thrown out in the market that wouldn't be too bad of a deal.(Didn't know he was recovering from a knee injury)

Correct. Jerry tried like heck to trade back up for Kevin Jones.

I'd be in favor of this signing. He was slowed by injuries, but when healthy he has all the tools to be a great compliment to MB3.

It needs to be said though, he grew up an Eagles fan and leading up to he draft didn't have many kind words for Dallas.

He still hates the Cowboys. He's made a few more comments since being in the NFL. You'd think a guy could mature enough to get over childhood grudges now that he's a grown man in the league. Of course, if Dallas turned out to be the only team to offer him anything, he'd get over his hatred real quick.

I would definitely, give him a call, I can't remember any running backs with Detroit who have stood out in the last 10 years, Alright Barry Sanders, and hell he packed up his bags and left the league altogether.
