Are these two veteran stop gap parcells guys going to be brought in next year?

Mawae won't be cheap, but Coleman may be affordable. Coleman isn't TOO old. But Mawae has had injury problems.

If we sent out Adams - Allen - Mawae - Rivera - ????

That would probably be one of the oldest lines in the nfl... I think we desperately need to get younger here. I wouldn't mind Mawae if he was cheap, but I see him probably costing a lot of money, although the center market will probably be pretty rich in free agency this year. Same goes for the free safety market.

If Kevin Burnett can step up inside next to Bradie James, and we can get more out of Fujita on the outside (or maybe get a playmaker like Abraham) our defense would be stout.

I'm willing to go into the 06-07 season with what we have at receiver (+ the draft) if we can get core olinemen, and a couple big time players.

I would forsee something like this

Defense
Secondary (a little bit of texans, a little bit of browns, a little bit of cowboys)
Henry (Glenn) - Coleman - Williams - Newman

Linebacker Corps
Ware - James - Burnett - Abraham*

Defensive line
Spears - Ferguson - Canty

Offensive Line
Adams - Allen (restructured) Or Steve Hutchinson (if Allen is released) - Bentley* - Rivera - 1st Rd Draft pick

Rest of the offense is the same

* = Big money free agent aquisition, notice only one player on defense... And the rest of the money is put into getting Bentley and maybe Hutchinson if we release Allen. Definitely something we could afford. Not to mention the cap savings involved with moving Glover and/or Ellis in addition to Allen, Singleton, and Nguyen.

At this time I believe both are under contract though rumors of Coleman being released by the Texans have surfaced.

I live in Houston so I get stuck watching the Texans play and we dont want anything to do with Coleman.

Coleman would simply be a fit in our defense. He doesn't need to be a star, he just needs to do his job, and do it better than keith davis. Something I don't think he can do. I know.

As for Mawae, he is also likely to be released.

Coleman is just pretty bad at everthing. He's a below avg cover guy and at times shys away from hitting.

I'd take Mawae. Is he a stop gap? Yes, but IT'S OK TO HAVE A FEW OF THOSE. Is he an upgrade over what we've got? Yes. Will he be released? I have no idea. It's PURE speculation to say he will. If I had to guess I'd say no but it's just a guess. Kevin is a leader and he plays the game with a nasty streak. I like him.

We have too many of those already. Bledsoe, Allen, Rivera, Johnson, Glenn, and to some extent Adams. We need some young blood.

I'm much more interested to see if Jason Fabini gets cut. To me, he would be the former Parcells lineman to bring in.

The "rumors" about Coleman are anything but rumors to the people within the organization. He lost his starting job and they found a serviceable replacement that is cheap. He will be released according to one of their positional coaches I know. Whether he'll be a Cowboy is anybody's guess. He obviously could go anywhere and there has been no credible speculation toward a particular team. Call that a "credible rumor".

I like the Bentley, Hutchinson additions. We'd be lucky to get one, let alone two. Given a choice, I like Hutchinson...although Bentley is great, it's easier to cover a size deficiency than a guard deficiency. Johnson has the skill to make the calls, just needs a little more grit to take on bigger linemen. Gurode would be ideal if he could make the correct call, but hasn't done too hot yet.

I think Abraham will cost too much to be viable...he's good, but I would feel better if he were a bit younger, say three years younger.
