I don't see how they could fall from 3 to 24 or so. They've given up 794 rushing yards. Only seven teams are worst. Take 227 away from last week and you have 95 YPG given up prior to last week. That can't be the 3rd best rushing defense in the league. The Jets haven't given up but 429 so far. A couple teams are in the low 500s.
The Giants at the end of week 7 had given up 794 yards rushing. Subtracting the 233 they gave up to the Cowboys leaves 561 yards allowed prior to the Cowboys game.
The current 1st place team (Jets) are currently at 429 but have played 1 less game. Adding their average of 71.5 to 429 gives them a projected number at 505.5 total yards allowed.
The current 2nd place team (Oakland) are currently at 506 but with 1 less game played. Add their average for the missed game 506 + 84.3 = 590.3 yards allowed (projected).
Summary (prior to this week):
Jets 505.5 projected
Giants 561
Oakland 590.3 projected
Therefore, when taking into account the bye week that teams like the Jets and Oakland have had but that the Giants have not had, then it's not hard to see that they could have been ranking highly in rushing yards allowed prior to the Cowboys game.
The other way to look at it is that the Giants had given up the 561 yards prior to the Cowboys game. 561 yards over 6 games gives a 93.5 ypc which would rank 6th when compared to the averages allowed prior to today.
If I could find the thread that I made before the Giants gave I would know the exact rankings prior to the Cowboys vs Giants game but I didn't have any luck searching from Google.
