Pros: Witten has caught at least 81 passes in three of his six pro seasons and hasn't hauled in fewer than 64 since his 35-catch rookie season (2003). Last year, while battling through a rib injury, he managed 81 receptions for 952 yards and four touchdowns; he caught 96 passes for 1,145 yards and seven scores the year before. He figures to be the primary target in the offense and remains quarterback Tony Romo's favorite target. Witten's 122 targets ranked second amongst all tight ends in 2008.
Cons: Witten's numbers have fluctuated considerably the past three seasons, but the have come closer together in the past two years. He has never scored more than seven times in a season. We expect Witten to draw extra coverage this season without wide receiver Terrell Owens in the fold to command double-teams over the top.
Fantasy tip: The seventh-year vet is about as safe as they come at the position; he plays through injury, has excellent hands and is the top target in the offense. Draft him confidently as the No. 1 option at the position. Witten should be a fourth-round pick in standard formats and can serve as a No. 2 receiver in point-per-reception leagues.
