Alright, snowy day here, waiting for the senior bowl to start and so messed around a bit and ended up with this mock. Used the CBS Sportsline player rankings as a way to not be able to take all (or even most!) of the players I want. I would have liked to work in an offensive linemen.

1 Cody Prewitt, FS, Ole Miss
By drafting Prewitt the Cowboys continue their recent tradition of drafting the Best Player at Position, even if it means the pick will be considered a reach by some (this is a potential trade down scenario but I didn't want to get into predicting trades). More importantly they fill the long-standing void at free safety.

2 Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State
Smith is an athletic, productive player (15 TFLs, 9 sacks, 2 INT, 2 FF, 3 PBU, 2 blocked kicks) who would fit in well as the strong side end.

3 David Cobb, RB, Minnesota
One of the best all-around, three-down backs available in this draft, capable of stepping in and filling the DeMarco Murray role (but hopefully he splits more of the touches).

4 Eric Rowe, DB, Utah
Rowe offers the versatility of being able to play both CB and S, improving the depth at both positions, and hopefully challenging for a starting CB role in year two.

5 Nick Marshall, CB, Auburn
A project worth taking a flyer on.

6 Derrick Lott, DT, Chattanooga
Former Georgia Bulldog, showed up well at the East-West Shrine Game, not only displaying power and flashing some quickness but making plays on special teams as well.

7a DeAndre Carter, WR, Sacramento State
Could be a good option in the slot in five-receiver sets as well as take on the return duties if Dwayne Harris isn't re-signed.

7b Cameron Lynch, LB, Syracuse
A captain at Syracuse, had a solid week of practice at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, undersized but fits Rod Marinelli's scheme.

CBS has Prewitt ranked as a late 2nd.

I like the idea of a guy like Rowe that played both Safety and CB. I would try to make him a Free Safety.

I don't see any scenario where Prewitt would be the BPA, nor do I think he's the best FS....so yeah I think he would be a reach.

Same with Cobb...there are a lot of talented RB"s in this draft and I don't think Cobb is in the top 10. If there is an early run on RB's I could maybe see him being a good pick at the end of the 3rd ,but doubtful.

Smith and Rowe are both good picks and I like the idea of taking a shot on Marshall as a DB....just not in the 5th.

01/22/15 - 2015 Senior Bowl, Thursday: Prior to the start of practice, scouts were notified that a handful of players would not be participating due to injury. Michigan State running back Jeremy Langford was among them, giving his fellow former Big Ten backs Ameer Abdullah (Nebraska) and David Cobb (Minnesota) plenty of opportunity to demonstrate their very different skill sets. The 5-8, 198-pound Abdullah is the most exciting runner participating in the Senior Bowl, routinely dazzling with his natural elusiveness and acceleration. When given a crease Wednesday, he zipped through the line of scrimmage, leaving the North's slow-footed linebackers in his wake. At a shade under 5-foot-11 and 229 pounds, Cobb is a much more physical, churning his legs through contact to finish runs. Not surprisingly, he was also the North's stoutest pass-blocking during blitz pick-up drills. Cobb also caught the ball well out of the backfield. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

Right now the rankings are fluid,Prewitt can go higher if he has a good combine.

The people have spoken! :)

I think I overthought it with Prewitt. I originally had him in the second round and I was bouncing between Michael Bennett and Nate Orchard for the first round. Maybe if we trade out of the first.

But I still like the picks above for rounds 2 through 4. I think Cobb's ability to get on the field right away is not to be overlooked. And Preston Smith, man, I'd be really excited for that pick.

Watching the senior bowl now and i think these RBs are great,i would take a guy like Artes payne or Johnson in the 4th or 5th and be delighted, this class is very deep.

I don't think we have a 6th round pick, didn't we give it to the ravens for McClain, receiving their 7th in return?

I prefer to treat this draft as the FO approached the offensive line.
lets fix the defensive line and many ills will be alleviated
true if the first pick isnt DL BPA then there will be other needs
