Today's question: Does the presence of Carson Wentz make the Philadelphia Eagles the best-positioned team in the division for the long term?

Todd Archer, Dallas Cowboys reporter:
This will surprise a lot of folks coming from the Cowboys reporter, but I’m going with Dallas and Dak Prescott instead. It’s not so much a knock on Wentz, either. It’s the state of the rosters for both second-year quarterbacks. Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles and LeGarrette Blount will be free agents after this year. So might four other potential Philadelphia starters. That’s not a recipe for helping Wentz’s long-term success. Those players will help him right now, and I believe the NFL, more than ever, is a "right now" kind of league. But if we’re talking long term, you also have to factor in the age of left tackle Jason Peters. Now look at the Cowboys: They should have their three All-Pro linemen locked up this summer when Zack Martin joins Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick with megadeals. Ezekiel Elliott is signed through 2019 and won’t be going anywhere. Dez Bryant isn’t going anywhere. Terrance Williams re-signed on a four-year deal. Cole Beasley is signed for another two years. And apparently Jason Witten will play forever. To me, Prescott is lined up to be better for the long term.

I'm still surprised that reporters from both the Giants and Commanders agreed that Dak & the Cowboys are better-suited for long term success.

Even though I think all of us here can agree on that, the national narrative still seems to be that Wentz is a better QB than Dak. I think purely thanks to draft position, Wentz gets the Andrew Luck treatment of overestimation.

Why would someone ask that question?

Are the Rams the best positioned team in their conference because of Goff?

Wentz was very average at best for a rookie. He may be great but there is no way he has proven he is worthy of the second pick nor should he even be in the same sentence as Prescott right now.

But everyone is writing off Goff...

Big city, northeast QB is being overrated. He may be good but he has a lot to prove.

What is Carson Wentz's 'presence?' The presence to not be able to throw downfield accurately? The presence to not anticipate well? The presence to have a terrible throwing motion that delays throws and cause poor ball location?

The Giants reporter wrote that Dak "may not be as good as Wentz", and that he relies on his supporting cast for success.

What I want to know, though, is what that reporter has seen ON THE FIELD that leads him to believe Wentz is even AS GOOD AS Dak, much less better than him.

Risen Star, CowboysZone savant: Wut? This is the dumbest #$@#$ing question you could ask. Of course Wentz gives the Eagles the edge in the future. And not just in the NFC East. I am talking the NFL here. Scratch that. Even bigger than the NFL. Wentz gives the Eagles the nod over the NFC East, the rest of the NFL, the entire NBA, the Canadian Curling League, cancer, heart disease, global warming, Donald Trump, Putin, North Korea and the Bermuda Triangle. I can't believe you wasted my time asking me this dumb question.

Ex- freaking -Actly. I've posted on a Rams message board. They say Dak is NOTHING without an offensive line, and if you put Goff in instead of Dak, he'd be better. NOPE. You're #1 overall QB pick just isn't as good as ours, sorry. We got lucky, yes, but the hate over there is funny. They find ANY way possible to discredit Dak.

Oh, did you guys know that Dak is the ONLY QB that benefits from a good O-Line?:rolleyes:

Has any other teams great qbs and rbs been downgraded as much as the cowboys have because of the OL? I heard the same thing about Aikman and Emmitt as I do now with Zeke and Dak, they're the product of everything around them and not they're own set of skills

According to PFF, the Eagles have the #1 OL, not the Cowboys or Raiders. Cowboys are ranked #9. So losing a terrible Free and replacing Leary with Collins drops us all the way to #9.

9. Dallas Cowboys
They’ve been the class of the league for so long, but a line can only survive so many hits. Ronald Leary and Doug Free weren’t at the caliber of Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, or Zack Martin, but they were quality players in their own right. The big question mark is La’el Collins moving to right tackle. Tackle was his more natural college position, but his below-average performance at guard isn’t too encouraging.

1. Philadelphia Eagles
2. Cleveland Browns
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Tennessee Titans
5. Chicago Bears
6. Atlanta Falcons
7. Oakland Raiders
8. Green Bay Packers
9. Dallas Cowboys

He's going to get those issues worked out.

Last year his throwing arm was TOO aerodynamic because of that sick compression sleeve he always wears.

So this year he's going to wear one on his left arm too. For balance, ya know?

And he's going to wear a sleeve on his neck too, so that the flow of bad decisions from his head to his body are inhibited.

Dak had a terrific season and one of the best of any NFL rookie quarterback in league history. Wentz had one of the works rookie seasons in NFL history. Asking the question is nothing more than click bait.
You got the Dak part right.
:flagwave:
Thats all that really matters:thumbup:

You may wish look at the history of NFL rookie QBs though, if you think Wentz' year was one of the worst ever.
Not even remotely close.
In fact, I bet it was better than 80% of rookie QB throught history...maybe more.
Maybe one of our stats guys has it handy

Its just that Dak's was better than ALL other rookies:yourock:
