Detroit has it because they accepted the offer. Come on, bro, you know better than that. It is a tradition just like a "grand father clause" or something.

That something would go on forever seems ridiculous. Like I noted, half the teams in the league didn't exist then.

Because it's now an established tradition. Teams ran from it; otherwise, they'd be part of the tradition, too.

It's like buying a house for a good price, then watching it appreciate when the surrounding neighborhood develops. Why should the next buyer have to pay more than you for the same house?

Yes. Do something because it is an "established tradition."

This league has moved on from tradition. We now have Sunday night games. Games most Thursday nights. Monday night games no longer on network TV. Multiple changes to playoff and division structure. The list goes on and on.

To suggest that something should continue simply because of tradition seems to ignore reality.

What would you suggest if you had the power to change it?

All the changes you describe is for greater exposure and TV ratings for the league. Moving the game away from Dallas will do nothing but diminish exposure and ratings. It's not going to happen.

I would like for the Cowboys to never play another Thanksgiving game. I cannot enjoy the game at all on that day. It is almost always on during the dinner time and I like to talk to family members who I haven't seen in a long time. Kind of hard to talk with one eye and one ear to the game. And most of my relatives are die-hard Cowboy haters who rejoice in a Cowboy defeat. Even when I go to a relative's house, the game is always on and the relatives are talking about it. There is no escape.

Years ago, before the internet and DirectTV, it was nice because it was a nationally televised game and another chance to see the Cowboys. Now, I can watch every Cowboy game on DVD-R, with the simple click on the internet, or tape delay on the NFL Network.

I'd much rather enjoy my Thanksgiving watching some other teams.

A couple years back I informed the whole family and relatives I was officially moving Thanksgiving day dinner to Friday/.....it works wonderfully.

And now the whole league gets Thursday games (which they hate), including an additional Thanksgiving game. Pretty fair compromise, while protecting the tradition that makes the game great.

There's a reason the XFL, USFL, Arena leagues, World League, etc, continue to fail. They don't have the tradition of the NFL. It's bigger than the game itself.

That is why it is called "tradition."

Because it has been that way for a long time.

I love tradition.

Like everything, I think the league needs to look for what gives the best bang.

I think that the Dallas game is always going to have bang. I think the Detroit game rarely does plus it is one so freaking early on the West Coast that you miss a ton of viewers. I'd look to make that TH night game a big time match-up, possibly even a flex game (decided several weeks in advance). Eliminate the Detroit game altogether and you get a better, less diluted product.

Also, I think the Dallas game always needs to be a good matchup. We've had some lame teams come in -- should always be a divisional opponent, a natural rival like NO, or some prominent AFC club.

You are being unfair about this if you say that the Cowboys should always play but not the Lions.

But, you do make a good point about better match ups. How would you have liked the Cowboys to play the Lions this past TG? The Cowboys would most likely have gotten crushed! lol

But, with all the other Thursday games coming on now don't you think that somewhat evens out?

I think that's precisely why the Cowboys rarely get a "good" matchup. Why would the league do that? They know that everyone is going to have the game turned on regardless and it will receive high ratings. Why "waste" a good matchup, when they can put those in non-Thanksgiving weeks and get higher ratings then?

The NFL wouldn't dare to try and remove Detroit from that day. There was a rumor that another owner wanted that game and to cancel the Lions 80 year tradition. The owner, who happens to also be the CEO of Ford Motor Company, threatened to pull all of Ford's advertising. That would be a huge loss of revenue for the NFL. Therefore, Detroit is going no where any time soon.

Dallas is and will be the biggest draw, so they will not go anywhere either.

I think the third game is overkill, can't be too many able to stay up to watch that game in a turkey coma. I would vote to move each game back 2 hours and cancel the third game.

The first game starts at 12:30 Eastern time. You move it back two hours and the game would start at 7:30 in the morning on the west coast. Yup, that should really help television ratings.

If your going to be condescending, at least get it right. Moving the game back means a 2:30 EST start time. Moving the game ahead would lead to the 7:30 PST start which I never suggested. I will equate that to PST for you....11:30. This will also make the second game start at 6:30 EST translating to 3:30 PST.

I do realize the spring forward, fall back time change argument but that does not apply here.

It isn't unfair. It is a simple fact that more people want to see Dallas.

I don't think it really evens out because Dallas always has that homegame on TX.

Because those other weak matchups aren't going to be national games. There are plenty of good matchups that don't make National.
