The main reason we have picked great prospects lately is truly sticking to the best player philosophy.

The reason thats been key is you usually end up picking the position that is deepest in blue chip talent.

Every year seems to have a couple positions that are stacked with so much talent that the guys going end of the first early second are just as good as the guys going mid first.

For example last year you could get Michael Thomas in the second who is arguably just as good if not better as corey coleman or josh doctson as WR was deep with good ones imo.

this year it seems obvious that DB is that position, just based on this list you have 10-14 possible legit playmker dbs, each w the ability to be the best of the bunch ie Desmond King could be just as good as Marcus Lattimore aa u commonly see this list flip flopped.

DE serms strong as well, and similar, Marcus Walker could be just as good as Bennett from what ive seen, I just think well most likely miss the cut off on this position, but either way, we could use another db and/or pass rusher so if other teams go heavy on one and leave is only the second tier , we can take from the top tier of the other position.
Gotta love the depth at db and de though!

21. *Derek Barnett DE Tennessee
22. *Charles Harris DE Missouri

Digging in their tape now Harris has some nasty to his game!

Barnett is a proven maker and complete player; would be stoked to grab a talent like him. I'm not nearly as enamored with Harris.

Harris has some Nasty to his game but as you say, Barnett has a quick burst and has power at the point of attack, prefer him over Harris as well.

Harris has a lightening fast first step and power with nasty relentlessness, I like him as a prospect as well.

He might the most overrated prospect in the first round IMO. Given how the draft is pretty weak on more polished QBs, Trubisky seems like he's the product of people having picked apart Kizer and Watson and by sheer elimination he's left as the top QB.

Of the three QBs talked about as possibly first rounders - Watson, Kizer and Trubisky - I wouldn't be surprised if Trubisky ends up being the worst of the three.

NO way. NO one is more overrated than Peppers. Kid has no ball skills whatsoever (ONE INT in three years....last game vs. OSU on a deflection up in the air) He is the most overrated prospect I've seen in over a decade. If you want someone like Devin Hester he's your guy. No real position...too small to play safety in the NFL and he's not a RB. He'd be a great value pick for someone like N.England or KC at the bottom of the first round. Full time kick and punt returner and work night and day with him to learn the slot WR position. Jim Harbaugh is a very good coach but not a great one. If he was great he would have had this kid in the slot on offense, not running out of the wildcat where he was totally ineffective. Buyer beware with Jabril Peppers.

You've never really watched him or simply don't understand how he was used at Michigan. He served effectively as a linebacker which explains his 13 TFL and 3 sacks last year. He has more than adequate size for safety, lol. Where are you coming up with that?

The guy I'm looking at that I think could realistically be at our spot in the 1st round and that offers the most ready-to-play now ability/development potential ratio is Taco Charlton from Michigan. He reminds me a lot of Jason Pierre Paul coming out of South Florida; lanky but well put together and very athletic for the position.

I like Taco a lot (haha). The cool thing is Greg Jackson, our safety coach, was the DB coach for Michigan in 2015. He also coached Jordan Lewis, and might be able to get the scoop on Jake Butt, as well as any other Michigan guys i cant remember.

There won't be many people that have that kind of intel. Interesting to see how that plays out. If there's good news on Butt, and he's there, i fully expect him to be our 3rd rounder.Butt.

He could use another year at UNC and really wanted to return. But when he added it all up--his great season, how high his draft stock is, and how all the Tarheel skill players are leaving--he thought it made sense for him to seize the day and continue his development at the next level.

He really does have the talent. But I'd think it'd help him to sit one year even if he fell into a dream situation like Dak did....which he won't.

Derek Barnett is the best DE/OLB in this draft. When you put someone like Soloman Thomas ahead of him, you've lost me. Barnett broke Reggie White's all-time sack record at Tennessee in three seasons-33. He would have gotten credit for another, if the refs at his bowl game hadn't blown an obvious strip-sack that was called an incompletion. Barnett had 14 sacks/ 20 tackles for loss/ 56 tackles/ 16 QB hurries & 2 FFs. Thomas had 8/15/62/7/1 respectively. I would LOVE for Barnett to drop to 21, so we would have a crack at him. He would single-handedly change our defense. Once again, the "experts" show they don't know squat.
