Ric Bucher/ESPN -
In an interview on ESPN's Sports Center, Ric Bucher says that Kobe Bryant remains adamant about being traded by the Lakers. He had been hearing that the Lakers didn’t believe that he wanted to be traded and is why he arranged a meeting with Dr. Jerry Buss, according to sources.

The three teams recently being mentioned as possible trading partners are Dallas, Phoenix and Chicago.

Coupled with talk out of LA that Dallas and the Lakers have talked a deal involvingTerry and Howard for Kobe.

I really hope this is not true, I just don't think I could bring myself to cheer for Kobe, even though Kobe + Dirk would be all but unstoppable.

I can't imagine that they'd trade him to a West powerhouse like Dallas.

I think Chicago is the most likely destination if he does indeed get traded.

And I don't think Howard and Terry are near enough value for Kobe. They'd need to give up Dirk.

Cuban has already made it clear to LA in the past (Shaq trade) that he is not willing to trade Dirk, and LA responded that they have little interest in Dirk due to his style of play.

Yep, so I don't think this gets done.

In theory this could work since Dirk has not shown he wants to be "top dog" and would have no problem deferring to Kobe and being left open for jumpers.

But as DW said, no way their GM sends him to another WC team unless someone gives him an incredible offer. He'll end up in NY or Chicago.

Terry and Howard for Kobe would be the steal of the century. No way that goes down. I think they'd have to throw in Harris and a couple of first rounders to get that done.

:laugh1: ...... and desperation sets in .............. now!

For the knee-jerk fan, maybe. "WEE NEED TO DO SOMTHIN NOW! BLOW IT UP!!!!"

On paper this would certainly end any problems the Mavs have taking the ball to the hoop, and would be a plundering of the Lakers.

But as others have said, it ain't happening. Moving on . . .

Mavs are a very good team ...... no reason to blow up anything.

I dunno, I think they should trade Dirk back for Tractor Traylor. :laugh2:

Exactly. There was an article in the Star-Telegram recently where Avery said he's planning on changing his coaching style a bit over the course of the season. Like his mentor in San Antonio, he plans on letting up a bit over the first few months and then pushing harder in March, April, May, June - unlike this year when he drove them hard all season and they ran out of gas at the end of the year.

But as I've said before, it would help Dirk out if we had a legit backup behind him - not a weak version of Dirk.

That trade almost looks criminal now. One of Don Nelson's many smart moves as GM back then.

/\ almost? its almost as bad as kobe for vlade divac.

Hmm, that's a good one. Kobe > Dirk but Divac >>> Traylor. The Kings had some really good teams with him at the center position; then he got old, Bibby lost his way, Webber got hurt, Peja went from the greatest European player to getting traded to the Pacers and falling off the map - then Nash went to Phoenix and now the Suns are the Kings v2.0.

When you're trading for a guy named Tractor, nothing good can come of that.
