That's a pretty high honor considering they are competing against some great sports stations like WFAN - New York, KJR - Seattle, and WEEI - Boston... Expectations are that KTKR will clean up and win this same honor at the National Association of Broadcasters conference next spring.

The most amazing thing about this award in my eyes is that if you took Norm off they would have a hard time even qualifying as sports radio. They would be competing with Howrad Sterns type of radio shows in some other "talk show" category. (wink) Some days they hardly talk enough sports to be considered sports talk.

You may not of liked some of their early onair personalitys but at least it was much more focused on Sports. I could do without all the goofy crap now and would love more pure sports. Obviously I'm in the huge minority here as they are the number one local sports station but honestly as much as Stepen A. Smith and Gallaway grate on me I still prefer ESPN 103.3.

WFAN sucks. They suffer from what I call the Ragu effect. There talk show guys they have there have been around forever. For the most part they aren't any good, but the NY area people don't know any better so they keep feeding on Ragu. It's like TripAdvisor.com. You are going to take a trip somewhere and you check the reviews of a hotel or resort. Everyone rates it 5 stars, then you arrive to a 3 1/2 star hotel. The reason they gave it 5 stars wasn't because they were lying, it was because they don't know what a 5 star hotel actually is.

Well, the NY people that listen to sports radio, eat the Ragu and think it's good, because they have never had anything good to compare it too. Considering this is NY, it baffles me. You would expect NY to have the best radio personalities, but they do not.

Good grief. Who gives that award away and what is the basis for the decision?

I guess fart jokes, celebrity impressions, old men ogling 20-year-olds, and "gay or not gay" count as sports talk these days.

they are trendsetters. The hardline almost never talk sports but that is there thing.

I listen to the ticket more than any other station. I am pretty worn out with the musers. I like the rest of the shows though. From 10-3 the sports stuff is the best.

oh and NYC people in New York dont eat ragu....we make our own sauce!

I'm not a fan of the Ticket, but they deserve their props. Congrats to them for the award.

Too much nonsense in the morning, but I know they are trying to reel in the drive time mass market. Each his own.
Usually tune in once Norm is on.

You want the short and sweet? Media is about entertainment. KTCK is entertainment that gives sports scores.

you have stations in Austin, New Mexico, and around the US, trying to copy their style.. Hell they are even copying their names, BLATENLY!!!

"Hammer", "Gay/Noy Gay", Homer Call of the Week",,,, stations are trying to copy all of that because it works.

And the reason why I like the ticket? It's like a bunch of buddies talking about "stuff" in the garage over a cold beer. Not like that "over-talking" east coast crap like Rhome (i know, but he is from the east coast), ESPN, WFan, who talk nothing but pure sports with weird voices.

I listen to the Ticket, and I would take a segment of "gay or not gay" talk intermingled with a segment of sports talk any day over 24 hours straight of generic sports talk. Besides, 95% of "sports talk" really isn't sports talk ... it's gossip about athletes. It's about who go busted drinking and driving, or who got caught with a gun without a permit. It's no different from Perez Hilton, except you just replace Lindsey Lohan with Michael Vick. And at the end of talking about Mike Vick for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 45 consecutive days what have we concluded? That he's not a good person? Wow, I was able to draw that conclusion in about five minutes. Sounds like time well spent.

And I thought the award was for a sports station, not an "entertainment" station.

(And what does that mean anyway -- all genres are entertaining to someone.)

What does last night's sitcom or Donovan's sex life have to do with sports?

Anyway, no point arguing. Some people love the Ticket. And they do have some good nuggets, but IMO it's not worth wading through all the garbage to find them. (That's why their podcast page is good.)

Exactly right. And if anyone questions the importance of the format of the ticket, try listening to fox sports radio one day, if u can find it.

Another nice thing about the ticket is they do not take themselves so seriously. I really like mike francessa, I think he is terrific, but chris russo thinks he invented sports and makes it impossible for me to turn them on. that is how most stations are.

I drive from dfw to central ny once or twice a year and the whole way home I search for sports stations, there is some of the worst crap ever when you go through, arkansas, tenn, ohio, kentucky.

like inman said I will take gay or not gay, which is funny over stephen a smith and his rantings and how he is an expert on every single sports franchise in every league any day.

I guess calling it a Guglielmo would be a mouthful.

I rarely listen to the Ticket, but props, nonetheless.

Ugh, if there is one thing I can't stand it's the "I'm gonna give you my take, and I'm going to keep it real. You may not like it, but I'm gonna tell it how it is." sportstalk blowhard.

Of course, his mind blowing take usually boils down to something like "Barry Bonds is NOT a good guy".

I cannot tell you how much I agree with you. Francessa I can listen too, but Russo is an absolute nightmare to listen too. He has been on the radio forever and they will not change him because of that.

The one thing they both do that drives me crazy is swap an "ER" in place an an A to any word that ends in an A. Like Atlanter instead of Atlanta. :bang2:

Well deserved, and far too late.

KTCK is the trendsetter in (successful) sports talk radio.

For the record, count me as on that's bored by the Musers as well. I usually start tuning in at 10am and listen until I get home.
