my friend who is a huge Steelers Fan...said Faneca, would purposely push defenders into Roethlisberger and would let Defenders go by him easily to hit or sack Big Ben....

he said because he didnt like Ben and wanted out, i doubt thats true, but i did see it a few times, it just shows hes not that great anymore

Sounds hard to believe.. but if true.... a very lowlife move.

why does everyone always want some sort of all-star free agent line?

three of our best guys right now are players we developed or pulled off the scrapheap -- Adams, Columbo, and Gurode. Plugging in an occassional big(g) free agent is fine but you don't want to go that path all the time.

Kosier gets the job done - he's not flashy but he's solid and cheap. If we resign Flo, we'll likely have McQ and Marten competing with Kosier for LG next year but I doubt either can take his job.

Faneca is a cancer. He pissed and moaned about how Russ Grimm should have been the Steelers' coach and in the process completely disrespected Tomlin.

Draft. I see us picking up an OG and/or OC this year.

4th or later likely -- but there is great value there for interior linemen

I see Marten getting a shot inside -- the scouting report on him was that he could play most of the line positions -- that report appears to have been wrong in one sense -- he can't play tackle at all. but if he can learn to snap the ball a bit then he might fill that role.

Faneca already is 31 years old, and Kosier is under contract through 2010 at reasonable cap numbers.

Also, according to STATS LLC, Kosier allowed 3.5 sacks this season (his lowest in any season as a starter), compared to 6.25 for Faneca (his highest since his rookie season in 1998). Perhaps Kosier is settling into his position (he moved around a lot earlier in his career), while Faneca is beginning to hit the later stages of his career? Maybe, maybe not.

Considering that Kosier is a solid player, is two years younger than Faneca and is undoubtedly cheaper (not even considering the cost of carrying both or getting rid of Kosier), I'd be hesitant to replace him with Faneca at this point. I certainly wouldn't make it a priority.

I agree. Koiser is 2 years younger, cheaper, already signed, better pass protector, we already have lots of money tied up in the offensive line, his play has been solid, and he isn't a weakness in the line.

Fanena is probably a better run blocking guard, I think without question we have the better overall value and player all things considered.

Serious? Just a question. I haven't paid much attention to Faneca this year but I know he was a premier LG for a while. I heard on Sirius that he would not be back in Pitt and wondered how he compared to Kosier. Would I make the move? Not knowing the details on Faneca (which is why I asked the question) I don't know.

Figured it was as good a topic as any of the Roy Sucks or I'm afraid of ... threads we've had.

I agree with you abersonc... I still have flashbacks of the Rivera experiment... :banghead:

I don't think Faneca is the same player he used to be. Good player but not a great player. Would be a waste of money IMO.

I think it will be a long, long, long time before Jerry spends big money on a free agent offensive lineman on the open market. He's been kvetching all year about how much money he had to spend on the OL last offseeason.

I would like to see us have a line that opens up some holes. I dont think I have seen any our RB's run up the middle for more 1.5 yards this year
