Many people blame Lacewell alone and totally neglect the Garrett family in respect to the 17 year disaster that is Jerry. It's aso ironic that many people use to absolve Stephen Jones of any misfortune. The following article in 1997 should clear some of the air:

http://www.texnews.com/cowboys/lost121497.html

"Our personnel system is not going to change one bit," said executive vice president Stephen Jones, who is second in command of the entire franchise. "We're committed to this system. It's been successful for the most part."

Unlike Green Bay, Carolina and others, the Cowboys don't rely on an experienced NFL general manager to run their personnel operation. Instead, it has been in the hands of Stephen Jones and Lacewell -- with increasing input from the scouting staff, assistant coaches and Switzer -- since Johnson was fired in March 1994.

Neither Stephen Jones, 33, nor the 60-year-old Lacewell had NFL personnel experience before coming to the Cowboys. In fact, of the Cowboys' entire, nine-man personnel operation, only scouts Jim Garrett, Bobby Marks and Walt Yowarsky worked for another NFL team before coming to Dallas.

I don't know what the entire problem is. Part is Jerry the GM, Jerry the owner, a little scouting which has changed since 97 despite what this old article claims, a lot cap problems created and persistently kept since early on, this year perhaps the scheme although I have no idea how to evaluate the defensive scheme under the circumstances and perhaps the coaching which again I can't evaluate with these problems on defense.

The fact we've gotten this far on the back of Romo and the miracle Marinelli has wrought on the DL should make one think. Perhaps it's not so much a miracle with the East like it is. OTOH, we played KC well at their house and pushed Denver to the brink.

Just too many injuries to overcome. It's not a coincidence that when Lee and Durant left the Bears ran on us. I'm not certain it made a difference with the pass defense.

You should see the old 2002 predraft article where Garrett swears that anyone who thinks Phillip Buchanon isn't better than Quentin Jammer doesn't know football (to which Zimmer says, "I think I'm a football person")... Or this from 2004:

Three years ago Dallas scout Jim Garrett wrote a report on Henson that was stunning in its praise. " Henson is a clone of Troy Aikman and is better than Aikman due to his quicker arm action and faster mechanics," Garrett wrote. "He will take a team to the Super Bowl."

-----------------------

"I think what scared teams about Henson now is the sacredness of [giving up] a high-round pick for him after he'd sat out for a while, which is ludicrous," Garrett said. "The position is so vital. I don't think sitting out is that much of a disadvantage. God gave him the aptitude to play, and he's only 24."

The real question is, what dirt does the old man have on Jerry? It has to be bad.

This just highlights what @Risen Star has been saying for years. We don't have football guys making football decisions.

Amazing how that can't be common knowledge by now. We still have a majority of our fan base searching for the right shade of paint on this condemned house.

Hey, I know. Let's change coaches!

good lord....have mercy....pick any bible thumping church cliche.....where do I start. The draft that yielded David LaFleur and omar stoutmire was a good draft? I liked Coakley...but that's about it with that draft. It is EASY to see that once the holdovers from the Jimmy Johnson era started to age and/or leave via free agency...this team did not beging to draft well again until Parcells showed up. Now that the players he brought in are aging/leaving...once again you begin to see Jerry and company have been able to do once left on their own.

It's obvious ths team is all over the place. The problem is, you can't really implicate Jerry without implicating his inner circle. Maybe Jerry needs to fire his inner circle.

Your schtick is getting old. And this isn't because you replied to me mockingly. It's the whole package.
