Depending on his health, i think that would be a huge upgrade. And we would still have great depth on the line.

Besides that, Bentley is a center if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if he has or if he can play guard.

I think he can play guard, but there are three big questions:

1) Is he fully healthy and able to play a full season?

2) Is Dallas willing to hand him the starting LG spot?

3) Would he be interested in proving himself under a low salary deal in Dallas?

My guess is that at least one of those answers is a No.

I would rather see what Marten can do at OG. Can't be wasting 3rd rounders like this.

In his rookie year with the Saints, he played G, and very, very effectively. They moved him to C the year after. When the Eagles wanted him a couple of years ago, it was their LG position they wanted to fill.

No-the fact that it's been THIS long since any team even expressed interest in him, he's obviously damaged goods.

This is a no-brainer.... he is worth a look.

it sure is a no brainer...the answer is no

he wants to be guaranteed a starting spot, and for that he's gonna want premium dollars...he isnt worth that risk

My guess is he is out of football this yr

Is that really his stance? If so then I agree with you.
I was talking only "salvage your career" kind of deal... with the Cowboys having the leverage.

Assuming the contract expectations are not rediculously high and he can pass a physical, I agree with you Mick.

It is a no brainer. Prior to his injury, Bently was a better player then Gurode, Bigg or Kosier. If you can improve your team in a fiscally responsible way, it's rediculous not to do it.

The language I'm hearing in this thread is simular to a lot of the same kinds of discussion I remember hearing about Columbo when we first signed Him. He, IMO, has certainly been worth the investment. I would be interested in seeing what might be possible if Charles could, in fact, pass a physical.

Big difference between the Bentley situation and what we did with Columbo. We were desperate for line help when we signed Columbo. We're certainly not in that shape now in regards to our OL. We simply don't need him, so there's no need to take a chance on him.

And he's 28, which isn't terribly old for a lineman. If he was already in his 30's I'd feel differently.

We have young guys on our roster that are healthy and have been in this system long enough to warrant seeing what they have on the field first before bringing in another player coming off that kind of career-threatening injury, plus the fact he's been out of football for what, 2 years? No thanks. Nobody knows if he'll even be effective anymore? That is a possibility even given his high profile and past acclaims. HH deserves a shot at coaching the present talent... I think Jones does not make that move by bringing LCB in

Bentley has had all kinds of bad luck (injuries and infections). I'll pass.

I like how the Cowboys OL is looking these days - solid 1st teamers and some talented younger guys who may make a push before too long. Who knows, maybe it'll soon be this guy's turn:
