La'el Collins comments predictably didn't sit well with OL

I guess we all should have seen this coming. Last year they seriously downplayed any comments about how well they were playing or if they were the best line in the league. This group doesn't like a lot of attention, they want to quietly be the hardest working position group on the team, but they don't particularly like talking about it. For a rookie to talk about being the best in history, I think we all got caught up in the moment, even though we probably believe that potential exists, but I don't think we'll hear Collins talk about that anymore.

Given the circumstances, I don't blame him for sharing that expectation, and that was clearly conveyed to him when the Cowboys recruited him, but yeah, I think you'll only hear that from the media going forward.

And didn't Emmitt Smith want to be the all time leading rusher in history when he wrote his goals down on paper coming into the NFL.....not a big deal about what Collins said, the guys on the offensive are striving to be the best, they just didn't come out and say it....must be a slow news day for the media

In any great unit, team or crew, there's always the one firecracker. The in your face one. If this kid pans out on the level we expect and backs up his talk with his play, then we'll all love his attitude and edge and say how much we appreciate that he's the way he is. We'll say things like he's the emotional leader of this group and is the nasty and intimidating force on this line. By the way, what's up with Eric Williams these days? Google in 3..2..

I think the op (shocker) is exaggerating the "didn't sit well" comment.

They all came out in their own way and said let's pump the brakes.... One day at a time (also not a shocker... This team lives and dies by JG's ethos).

They also commented on how Collins has come in and worked hard. T. Beard had a direct quote on that.

Finally... I wonder how Smith's comment on being drafted (I want to go into the HoF) sat with his veteran teammates?

Link? Source?
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2015/05/20/offensive-line-veterans-not-interested-collins’-“best-ever”-prediction

He was not making it up if that is what you were concerned about. All three linemen were in unison. Don't talk, just work.
Asked about Collins’ comments, though, Smith tossed aside the speculation like he would a pass rusher.
“For us, it’s just to do our part on the team and kind of work hard every day and just kind of be the hardest working group on the team,” he said.

“We certainly have a lot of talent in that room. A lot can be said about the guys that are there, but there’s also a lot of times where talent goes wasted if it’s not put to good use,” Frederick said. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. We have a long way to go and we’re going to continue to work and continue to try to get better.”

“I think him and all the new guys, they’re coming to work,” Martin said. “Like we’ve always said, our group sets a very high standard for how we work, and they’ve come in and done that.”

When he joined the team, the veterans consisted of lousy veterans like Phil Costa, David Arkin, Bill Nagy and Montrae Holland, I really don't care how it sat with them.

LOL to your comment in bold!

With apologies to Erik Erikson, I would guess that Collins sees his identity reflected in the big picture; as a part of an already exceptional group that can be better. I doubt this group would hold it against him, in private anyway.

To each his own. I have no problem with a player stating that they intend to be the best or how the best unit in football or intend to win a Super Bowl. Like Randy Gregory said, if you're not thinking about the Super Bowl, then why are you here?

By the same token, it doesn't bother me if somebody just wants to go about their business either.

People go about things in different ways.

If Collins signed with the Eagles and then started talking Super Bowl, people would be whipping out the laughing smiley trophy case.

Even our great lines back in the 1990s were not vocal, nor talking Super Bowl. They were just out there doing their talking on the field.
