I think the op (shocker) is exaggerating the "didn't sit well" comment.

They all came out in their own way and said let's pump the brakes.... One day at a time (also not a shocker... This team lives and dies by JG's ethos).

They also commented on how Collins has come in and worked hard. T. Beard had a direct quote on that.

Finally... I wonder how Smith's comment on being drafted (I want to go into the HoF) sat with his veteran teammates?

I think you're over analyzing what "didn't sit well" means. It doesn't mean they're angry with him or think he should be punished, they just don't like that kind of talk.

As for Smith, this offensive line wasn't anything before we got Smith, so no one here to really care.

If Collins signed with the Eagles and then started talking Super Bowl, people would be whipping out the laughing smiley trophy case.

Even our great lines back in the 1990s were not vocal, nor talking Super Bowl. They were just out there doing their talking on the field.

In the 90s you don't really know what our players were talking about. Never in the history of sports do we have such access to them.

Wait, they did not have beat reporters, microphones, recording devices and newspapers back then? Well how about that.

Just because things are instant and more prevalent now does not mean a thing. You just get it faster and in greater amounts.

If you wanted to be heard and said it with parties present, it would be reported.

And they had press conferences back then too, and that is exactly where Collins was doing his talking.

Not many articles in newspapers about offensive linemen in the 90s....

It isn't only about the recording medium, but rather the delivery system.

So?

That's what fans of opposing teams do. Does not influence the Eagles' play on the field.

Yes, and Mike Ditka told the world that when he took over the Bears that they would indeed win the Super Bowl. And Ray Lewis nor Michael Irvin had a problem with telling the world how great they were on how great their team is.

Different strokes for different folks.

The problem becomes when a player or a team thinks that they are going to win or be successful because of who they are instead of understanding that it takes hard work and mental toughness each and every season in order to be the best in the world. It doesn't matter whether you are 'humble' or outspoken, if you don't buy into that concept, you're not going to be any good.

People are praising the comments saying confidence is great. Yet, Frederick and Martin were able to somehow contain themselves and remain humble. I would prefer the entire OL not even speak to the press. And I think indirectly, the big three on the line have made it clear to Collins to tone down the chatter and come in and do his job. If it makes the line the greatest ever, so be it.

Big difference coming from a head coach or the emotional lightning rod player on your team. When it comes from an Eagle backup like Vince Young, or even a young rookie lineman who does not even have a job yet, it is just not a great look nor all that impactful.

In any great unit, team or crew, there's always the one firecracker. The in your face one. If this kid pans out on the level we expect and backs up his talk with his play, then we'll all love his attitude and edge and say how much we appreciate that he's the way he is. We'll say things like he's the emotional leader of this group and is the nasty and intimidating force on this line. By the way, what's up with Eric Williams these days? Google in 3..2..

What did you find on google?

And I have no preference. And many people prefer the attitude of stating your beliefs. What makes your preference better than mine or the others?

Big difference coming from a head coach

I think it is a big difference. The head coach is generally looked at as being the guy that is supposed to be even keeled and demanding. Remember, Ditka's only coaching job before the Bears was as the Special Teams coach for the Cowboys. And he came right in to the Bears and told the press that they will win a Super Bowl with him as a coach.

Deion Sanders was telling people how great he was before he ever played a down in the NFL.

I have no problem with your preference of a rookie staying humble and not talking, but the fact is that many rookies and coaches around the league have done so and done it with success.

Yes. And Fred and Martin didn't have to go through the roller coaster week that preceded that comment. If this 21 year old kid keeps talking like that then, fine, have a problem with it. Otherwise, give me a break.

Who cares what Collins says good for him the kid is excited and fired up. No one questioned Michael Irving when he was drafted and started shooting off his mouth already about a Super Bowl. We all know how that prediction turned out. :D

5 years ago : "This team needs more fire, more swag."

Now: "This team has too much fire, needs less swag."

I doubt the OL really cares, but they don't want to hear about it or talk about it all season. He was confident and likely reiterating what the entire organization in attendance pitched him on at the dinner.

Jerry said it. Collins was hypnotized, repeating the phrase as he inked his contract with the Cowboys.
Don't like it. Take it up with the boss man.
Besides, we aint no Philadelphia Eagles and Vince Young.
We dem Boyz, America's Team.
Teams are already out to get us anyway and always looking to give their best against us.
There's only so much "under the radar" flying you can do.

I have no problem with what he said. I also think that will be the end of those types of comments from him
The vets will bring him into the fold and he will soon be just like they are and hopefully just as effective
Most olines are a close group and follow each other's lead
By camp they will teach him how to be a part of this group
I like the fact he has this confidence and I like the fact the vets basically said time to work not talk

Collins comments of becoming the best OL in NFL history this a goal I hope they all have. I respect guys like Tyron and Frederick saying there is much work to do. Fact is when I heard Emmitt Smith as a rookie say his goal was to be the NFL All time leading rusher I'm sure many shook their heads, his goal was lofty. I seriously doubt any of the players took offense to Collins remarks they are just remaining grounded in what they have to do now.

Chalk it up to a young man being overly-excited on one of the greatest days of his life.

He knows he's an incredible talent whose joining one of the youngest and best OLines in the NFL. Hell, I'd be flippin' my lid too.

I'm sure the vets will tone him down a bit and turn all that excitement into work ethic. I don't knock the guy for saying it. It made us all feel good and is a very real possibility.
