I think the op (shocker) is exaggerating the "didn't sit well" comment.
They all came out in their own way and said let's pump the brakes.... One day at a time (also not a shocker... This team lives and dies by JG's ethos).
They also commented on how Collins has come in and worked hard. T. Beard had a direct quote on that.
Finally... I wonder how Smith's comment on being drafted (I want to go into the HoF) sat with his veteran teammates?
If Collins signed with the Eagles and then started talking Super Bowl, people would be whipping out the laughing smiley trophy case.
Even our great lines back in the 1990s were not vocal, nor talking Super Bowl. They were just out there doing their talking on the field.
In the 90s you don't really know what our players were talking about. Never in the history of sports do we have such access to them.
Wait, they did not have beat reporters, microphones, recording devices and newspapers back then? Well how about that.
Just because things are instant and more prevalent now does not mean a thing. You just get it faster and in greater amounts.
If you wanted to be heard and said it with parties present, it would be reported.
And they had press conferences back then too, and that is exactly where Collins was doing his talking.
Not many articles in newspapers about offensive linemen in the 90s....
It isn't only about the recording medium, but rather the delivery system.

So?
That's what fans of opposing teams do. Does not influence the Eagles' play on the field.
Yes, and Mike Ditka told the world that when he took over the Bears that they would indeed win the Super Bowl. And Ray Lewis nor Michael Irvin had a problem with telling the world how great they were on how great their team is.
Different strokes for different folks.
In any great unit, team or crew, there's always the one firecracker. The in your face one. If this kid pans out on the level we expect and backs up his talk with his play, then we'll all love his attitude and edge and say how much we appreciate that he's the way he is. We'll say things like he's the emotional leader of this group and is the nasty and intimidating force on this line. By the way, what's up with Eric Williams these days? Google in 3..2..
Sure they did. It was just less obvious and not as readily available.

People are praising the comments saying confidence is great. Yet, Frederick and Martin were able to somehow contain themselves and remain humble. I would prefer the entire OL not even speak to the press.
Big difference coming from a head coach
People are praising the comments saying confidence is great. Yet, Frederick and Martin were able to somehow contain themselves and remain humble. I would prefer the entire OL not even speak to the press. And I think indirectly, the big three on the line have made it clear to Collins to tone down the chatter and come in and do his job. If it makes the line the greatest ever, so be it.
Big difference coming from a head coach or the emotional lightning rod player on your team. When it comes from an Eagle backup like Vince Young, or even a young rookie lineman who does not even have a job yet, it is just not a great look nor all that impactful.
