La'el Collins comments predictably didn't sit well with OL

Wait, they did not have beat reporters, microphones, recording devices and newspapers back then? Well how about that.

Just because things are instant and more prevalent now does not mean a thing. You just get it faster and in greater amounts.

If you wanted to be heard and said it with parties present, it would be reported.

And they had press conferences back then too, and that is exactly where Collins was doing his talking.

Are you actually trying to compare the level of access we have today to that of darn near 30 years ago?

Please stop.

I guess we all should have seen this coming. Last year they seriously downplayed any comments about how well they were playing or if they were the best line in the league. This group doesn't like a lot of attention, they want to quietly be the hardest working position group on the team, but they don't particularly like talking about it. For a rookie to talk about being the best in history, I think we all got caught up in the moment, even though we probably believe that potential exists, but I don't think we'll hear Collins talk about that anymore.

Given the circumstances, I don't blame him for sharing that expectation, and that was clearly conveyed to him when the Cowboys recruited him, but yeah, I think you'll only hear that from the media going forward.

I agree with your point, but I also give Collins a pass. The kid was mad and frustrated about how the biggest week of his life unfolded. First, the news of his ex-girlfriend's murder, followed by a paternity test of the unborn child that died, followed by questioning from the police, and capped by the loss of millions of dollars from the fallout of all the speculation.

He needed to vent, and he did.

But young Collins needs to figure out how he's going to beat out a good left guard and a seasoned right tackle before he worries about all-time lines.

If Collins signed with the Eagles and then started talking Super Bowl, people would be whipping out the laughing smiley trophy case.

Smilies would be appropriate in that case. And Collins was just echoing his elders.

I also gave Collins a pass. It was an emotional situation for him, and his signing with the cowboys was a big deal for him.

I do think it is time for the Cowboys to move to the next chapter with him, which is hard work and a demeanor that fits with this Cowboys line as it is.

I am not upset with Collins as you are right, he was repeating the sales pitch and his own excitement mixed with a little anger.

I am just very pleased the veterans/leaders are telling him how they do things.

I don't see any need to give a pass, he stated what his goals were and not just as an individual but as a unit. I hope all guys regardless if they say it or not have that attitude of being the best in the history of this game.

Thread points out how bored we are with the off season. Waiting for 10 pages on how somebody looked working out in gym shorts.

And this is what it boils down to for you...Jerry said something (presumably) and it's just your hatred of Jerry.

Which we could all smell from a mile away.

I think everyone in general need to pump the brakes on this oline. I feel a similar hype like 08 when we were supposed to steamroll the entire nfl.

It's fine for Collins to say having a chance to be part of something special was his reason for selecting the Cowboys and for the rest of the OL at the same time to say that right now, they're far from that goal. I don't see anything contradictory in that. Collins was asked about the factors that went into his decision, and that was clearly a factor for him. At the same time, he's here for three years and theres a lot of work to go into trying to make that chance a reality. Even at his press conference he wasn't suggesting anything was a foregone conclusion.

“That’s not something that I am personally going to say,” Frederick said. “I know that we have a long way to go to reach anything like that. We’re just in there now grinding, trying to continue to work on technique and strength and speed, and hopefully we can have another good year.”

I'd say everybody is probably on the same page, and this is a fairly healthy thing, all the way around. It's a great goal for the group to have since it's something that's really, really difficult to achieve, anyway.

Really? I don't. This ought to be one of the strongest position groups in the NFL. I don't see the need for brake-tapping. I thing we ought to bet hard on our ability to protect Romo and to zone block of the RBs. Dance with who brung ya.

Good. Glad they squelched that GOAT business right away.

I agree with you. Collins has to be better than Leary before he can say anything like that anyway. But he was just excited to get signed after getting screwed by the whole police questioning fiasco

No need to pump breaks this is a very good OL that sent 3 players to the pro bowl. As far as any comment of greatest in history? debates like that tend to be based on opinions. Much is expected from this OL and that is how it should be.

No, I have no problem with the sales pitch. If Jones did not pull out the stops, he probably does not sign in Dallas. And I gave him the credit he deserves for that at the time.

Collins just did not have to repeat it, but I understand why he did.

But please, continue to pretend you have any idea what I think.
