He could very well. He's is or is going to be 28... he's on the downside of his career as a back. He's more of a "pounder" that would probably mesh well with McFadden. I don't see him getting the money that say Ingram received last offseason, $16 mil/4 years.
Im not saying I like. Its their kind of move

I would be all for signing Miller.

he is playing it up pretty good on twitter about Dallas. He is saying all right things about looking for right fit and not looking for max dollars. But lets see if his actions match his message because there is no better fit than Dallas.

I'd be thrilled if the guy accepted an Ingram-kinda contract with the Cowboys and would accept say 15 carries a game.

He'd be a good fit here. I hate the idea of overpaying for RBs, and it's always a function of the money. But he's the right age and the right type of signing for us. If he really wants the right fit and can be reasonable on a contract, I think there's a good chance he ends up here.

As far as McFadden goes, he's the vet placeholder that makes them comfortable to not reach for a draft pick. That's what we do. McFadden being on the roster is not going to keep us from making a veteran FA addition that fits under the cap plan for the position.

Love how you put yourself in a hole with every argument.

Yeah, that's crazy right?

Oh no, what will I ever do.

Youre really ruining it for all of the people who think mcfadden is stopping the progress of someone who hasnt even been drafted yet.

Unfortunately, we're unlikely to sign him, too. Dallas appears to be in no hurry to add a legitimate back after what McFadden did last year.

I guess being last in the league at converting 3rd and 1 isn't viewed as a problem by the folks at Valley Ranch.

Do they realize that McFadden is not a power back and cant convert on short yardage?

I realized this by week 4..................the staff apparently never did because I kept seeing McFadden getting stuffed on 3rd on 1 in like week 15.:(

Considering his sample size of total carries as of week 4, that realization is very impressive.

I believe we're likely to look for a young power back for those situations. We're just not likely based on Jerry and Stephen's statements to pick up one who is going to be paid more than McFadden the starter. I think that means we'll spend somewhere from a third- to fifth-round pick on one.

My preference would be to bring in someone like Miller because he has proven ability and can challenge McFadden for that lead role (let's face it, Miller would win), and it would give us two backs we know are capable of starting ... instead of having the rotating door competing with McFadden last year.

If we want the running game to be at the level it was in 2014 we need a better plan than just relying on McFadden. He played much better than I expected, but he's still got some power limitations, is older and has an injury history. Those should be warning bells that we need to have a solid Plan A for a starter and a solid Plan B.

Now, a third-round back could end up being a solid Plan B, but it's risky to rely on that.

The way I read it is he's considered the vet placeholder that allows us to turn to the draft instead of having to make a veteran FA addition.

McFadden is scheduled to make $2 million this year. Can we get a worthy vet FA addition for less than that to be his backup?

The Joneses want a young (i.e. cheap) player to pair with their vet, whom they believe in as a starter, more than I'd like them to.

The only thing is next year in the draft there are even better running backs, I want the Cowboys to sign a rb to a 1 year deal or not sign one at all, Lamar miller will ask for multiple years.

That's what I'm thinking is going to happening. I don't believe the Cowboys will drop a draft pick on a RB this draft. They'll go the one-year route with a back OR sign one like Alfred Morris for 2-3 seasons and move from McFadden after this season.
