So help me understand. You are willing to devote some of our limited resources to a player they cannot even figure out how to use appropriately?

Every dime they would pay a player like Dunbar could be used elsewhere and more efficiently.

The sentiment is that Dunbar is taking snaps away from our best player. Why would you pay for the privilege?

If the choices are to re-sign Dunbar to a similar deal to what he received last year, give the third RB job to Smith or use one of our draft picks on a running back, then I'd rather sign Dunbar again. (I would rather resign McFadden, but right now, we don't know if we'll do that either.)

I don't agree with using Dunbar to take snaps away from Elliott. I do believe in having someone who has shown the ability to play in this league there if we need him.

There's also nothing in such a contract that should guarantee him a job. If someone comes in and beats him out, then so be it.

What's it going to be then, eh?

A little off topic, but relative somewhat:

So we liked Burkhead, a superior player.

But this was too rich?

Five years. Just amazing.

You would think they drafted him in the first round and felt they had to keep trying to justify the investment.

There always seems to be a player like this. Lynn Scott, Kevin Ogletree, Phil Costa. All players that simply are not good but keep getting signed back.

Devin Street  Alan Ball  Just terrible!

Well then you don't want Lance Dunbar. The guy has proven what he is - a tease of "potential" that never shows itself.

All I want is quality competition for each roster spot. As bad as many believe Dunbar is, he earned a spot on this roster last year while Rod Smith did not. We moved Smith to fullback because he couldn't compete with the tailbacks we had on the roster.

Many here want to bid good riddance to players like Free or Dunbar not realizing that the alternative to them could be much worse. I prefer that changes to the roster be made because players are beaten out not because they leave and we just go with the next-best thing.

The only positive with Smith is that he's a good special-teammer. We might not even get that in the draft or with a UDFA. I'm not saying I'd spend much to retain Dunbar, but I'd certainly keep him for cheap and then see if someone can knock him off the roster. McFadden would be the better choice, but I think if we sign him, we'll cut Morris so we're in the same boat of needing a third RB who can step in if needed.

I doubt we want to pay more than a couple million.

God forbid, if we lose him we will have to find somebody to play all 3rd downs so we can keep our best player off the field in those situations.
hey in that first quarter against Green Bay on 3rd and 2 Zeke musta needed a breather. Him being at that age of 21 where you tire easily

Because somehow they envisioned Dunbar as the next coming of Jamal Charles, never worked out except at the end of Charles career a similarity, neither could stay healthy, and Dunbar never came close to anything Charles posted in his hay day, but now he has,, a young career, never healthy, congratulations.
Now go sign with the Rams, please.
In an era where you can draft RBs to fit your team needs, one of the easiest areas to fill on draft day, why does this team find that concept so hard to deal with.
The Cowboys act as if drafting a RB of this caliber requires extensive investment,,
I don't get it.
Could have drafted several RBs to replace Dunbars role, quit investing the "time" hoping he can stay healthy, and prove your investment... they are a dime a dozen... other resources demand attention and some patience, not Dunbars.

Rex is a cult figure in DFW area for his high school days. Jerry would have made that money up before the season started.

I can remember one drive where he created a mismatch and we used him to win the game (vs giants). I can remember many times where his presence caused the offense to crash because he couldn't block or provide the threat to burn the defense via the draw. I usually get mad when he trots out onto the field, because I know it's probably the end of the drive. He seems like a good guy, I hope he goes somewhere that can get some use out of his tiny, weak, relatively slow self.

I like Dunbar but injuries have continued to hold him back.

It definitely appeared to have affected him last season, anyway.

For a long time, having a change of pace back who could run the route tree made a ton of sense in Dallas. But with Elliot on board and the team apparently interested in keeping McFadden around (if that's how it works out), that 3rd RB needs to give you something on STs. Something beyond backup return options.

I think this version of the Cowboys is done with entertaining false hopes of what Dunbar "might" be. I think we'll likely draft another RB this year at some later stage of the draft.
