Large Losses...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Cowboys are the only team in the division that hasn't had to contemplate a large loss on a Monday Morning.

We've been in every game, even the losses. Next week's Wash-Philly game will feature two teams that lost by an average margin of 4 ½ TDs....

Plus Philly got spanked by Dallas, and the Giants got the lumpy look from San Diego.

Thanks to the 49ers for beating the Bucs! Now, let's hope the Giants head to SF over-confident next Sunday...

Psychologically, I'd prefer that to getting blown out. At least you come out of the game knowing you're as good, if not better than, the other team. Just a few plays here or there and the results could have been different. That can be important if you play them again.

Contrast that to getting shut-out by 36 or so.....

Oh man not me. You get blown out it might just be a bad day. You lose a heartbreaker it just hurts. I've been on teams that lost both ways. It doesn't even compare in how much it hurts to be so close and fail.

Sure it may hurt more, but I'd think you'd be better prepared mentally after loosing a close one vs. getting your butt whipped. I'm speaking about the players' confidence level.

Dallas should soon believe, if they don't already, that they can hang tough with anybody in the league. Philly on the other hand, with 2 blow-out losses and a lucky win in their last 3 games has to be wondering.....

You'd think that, but you'd be wrong. It really isn't hard to laugh off a blowout. Everyone jokes about it. Even the coaches do a little bit. Except in film sessions. Those last second losses eat at you all week.

By all means feel free to ask anyone else who played that posts here which they prefered. Without prompting you to who did and who didn't I'd bet money they'll say the same thing.

As a coach and former player I would much rather lose a close competitive game than get blown out.

Anyone that laughs off a blowout shouldn't be involved in professional sports. IMO

I know I wouldn't want that type of player on my teams.

I'll be sure to tell my Hall of fame Head Coach what a yutz he was.

I can't believe that someone would rather lose a close game than a blow-out.

The close games are the ones that you remember long after the season is over if you don't make the playoffs.

You WILL find yourself saying "If only I did such-and-such on this particular play..."
In a blow-out, it usually is the furthest thing from your mind later on.

Without a doubt, the close games are the harder ones to take....and the ones that eat at you.

Great point.

I understood totally what BP was saying after our last close game that we lost when he was talking about their psyche.

When you have that many....especially early in the season, it REALLY drains you.

It depends really. You are correct that you remember the close games, but you don't lose your confidence over close games. When a team annihilates you, you start to question whether you can beat that team ever.

If I have to face a team over and over again, I'd rather lose the close one than the blow out. If you continue to be blown out, you start to doubt yourself, and you've already lost once you do that.

I guess the Texans feel just great about their team then. They haven't lost too many close games.

Wait a minute, you're talking apples and oranges. 1 bad loss versus a season's worth of losing isn't the same thing.

I think that the Raiders game was a large loss.

The Cowboys have been in all 7 of the other games....including the other 2 losses. They should have won the Seattle and Skins games....but I thought they were manhandled in the Raiders game...even though the score was close. They ran on us at will. They controlled both lines of scrimmage in that game.

I for one am glad to see us compete in nearly every game this year.

I will take a heart stopping last second loss any day over a 40 to 10 butt stomping.

So what game do you think we get blown out in. My money is on the Denver or Carolina games.

I'm thinking that Denver is getting way to much love following the iggles game.

The Bronco's were up by 28 and almost gave the game away in the 3rd quarter.

I am not impressed with the Denver defense. Mcnabb started that game 0 for 12...and that was due to his inability to throw...it was not due to great defense by Denver.

After watching that game, my opinion is that the spotty output of Philly's offense in the 1st half and 4th quarter was primarily due to a hobbled McNabb. And also due to Reids stubborness in staying pass heavy.

Although I will give Denvers offense credit in shredding the Philly D. But the Philly D was exposed by Dallas a few weeks back.

I think that Dallas can score on Denver. I also think that if Dallas can control Denvers running game then they will also be able to control the Denver offense.

I don't think we'll get blown out all year and I'd never predict that sort of thing anyway.

Don't you have some QB discussions to be wrong about?
