Brown's announcing partner, i forget his name he's so insignificant, was whining about the Vikes running up the score, playing the violin.

Larry quickly responded that no team should be asking for mercy and if a team is running up the score that is the position the team has put itself in.

In a nutshell, there is no crying in the NFL.

None of the cowboys has whined (I hope) and the only whining might that of fans and commentors.

But Larry is right: Do what you do well and keep doing it and do not sweat too much that feelings are gonna be hurt.

What do you mens think?

I think Larry is right.
60 minutes, don't ask for mercy and keep your legs moving until the end.

This was discussed ad nauseum in another thread.

One side complained and said they shouldn't have run up the score.

One side said don't complain and stop them from scoring if you don't want them to score.

I say both are right, ... most coaches with class would not have done it, but if it gets done to you just shut up and take it since you didn't stop them.

In my 17 yrs or so of coaching I have been on both sides.

I would not do it myself, but I didn't say anything when it was done to me.

I didn't forget it though, and had a chance for payback a few times, .. other than that, just move on and keep quiet.

Totally true. People should be whining more about our teams performance than what Minnesota did to us.

I don't feel strongly one way or the other.

Yes Dallas should've stopped them from doing it but at the same time it was a little "jerky".

Our teams performance was because of what Minnesota did to us, .. and I don't mean the last TD.

Scoring is a need-based activity. If you don't need to score, you don't. You're playing humans, not robots. Show class. Childress and his Radio Shack-employee headset failed in that arena today.

All this "if you don't want them to score, don't let them" nonsense only implies activity from a single partner. Is the onus on the Cowboys to stop the Vikings? Yes, of course. That's the objective in football. But the morality of throwing for scores with a 24-point lead in the game's dying embers is, of course, dubious.

Unnecessary scores in garbage time are indeed garbage. Screw that worthless franchise.

Then are you in favor of an NFL "run rule" of sorts in the last few minutes of a game and the game is just called?

I don't like the fact that they did it, but I would just keep that to myself if I were Dallas coaches or players.

It made me mad when the Vikings ran up the score, though I don't blame them for it. Apparently they were sending a "message" to the Saints. I would have rathered that someone went over after the play and jumped Farve and pummelled him into the ground to send the Vikings the "message" that running up the score is a good way to get your QB killed. I think teams should kneel because it's the right thing to do, but if they choose to go another way, then they get anything that happens to come back at them.

Brooking shouldn't have yelled at the sideline, he should have started a fight with Farve and kicked the crap out of him.

OK screw it....do away with the "victory formation" and may the commissioner look into any and all "lay down's" by teams that are in the lead.

In our playoff win over Minnesota in 1996 (our last playoff win before this season), we had the ball on the Vikings' 17-yard line at the two-minute warning, leading 40-15. We ran up the middle on second down. We ran up the middle on third down. On fourth-and-2 from the 14 with less than 50 seconds to go, we ran up the middle again and didn't get the first down.

Looking back, maybe we should have had Aikman throw a play-action pass into the end zone. I bet they wouldn't have expected that.

What I meant was should a game be ended in the last two or three minutes of a game if one team is ahead by a certain amount of points? I was trying to compare it to a 10-run rule in little league baseball. This would certainly prevent a team from running up the score.
