Rumors. That's all they were. And just as most rumors go, these rumors - that the 2008 Dallas Cowboys were the most talented team in the National Football Conference - turned out to be nothing but hearsay. The disappointment ran franchise-wide - from he fans, to the players, to the guys pouring Gatorade on the sidelines. The rage ran especially deep in owner/general manager Jerry Jones, and the bitter taste in his mouth manifested itself in massive off-season changes which Cowboys' fans hope will result in addition by subtraction - and a better showing in 2009.

In 2008, the Cowboys were odds on favorites in most Las Vegas casinos to capture the NFC Championship and advance to the Super Bowl. This in spite of the fact that the New York Giants - the defending NFL champs and the only team to defeat the previously undefeated England Patriots">New England Patriots a year before - were in their division. But those odds turned out to be like every other prediction for the 2008 Dallas Cowboys: just rumors.

With the subtractions of such problem players as star wide receiver, Terrell Owens, defensive back, Adam "Pacman" Jones and defensive tackle Terry "Tank" Johnson, the Dallas Cowboys should be a lot less distracted in 2009. They also appear, however, to be a lot less talented.

2009 Dallas Cowboys Schedule: A prediction

Sun, Sept 13 @ Tampa Bay (FOX)
A Cowboys win - One of the 2009 Facts or one of the Rumors?

Sun, Oct 11 @ Kansas City (FOX)

Sun, Oct 25 ATLANTA (FOX)
A Cowboys win - One of the 2009 Facts or one of the Rumors?

Second-year quarterback, Matt Ryan shines as he hooks up with newly-signed tight end, Tony Gonzales, on two touchdown passes. Dallas falls for the second time in their new home. Prediction: One of the Rumors (Falcons win 27-21)

Sun, Nov 1 SEATTLE (FOX)
A Cowboys win - One of the 2009 Facts or one of the Rumors?

Seattle comes to town and gives Dallas exactly what they need: a bad team to beat up on. TJ Houshmandzadeh catches two touchdowns but Seattle's defense has no answer for Dallas' running game featuring second-year running back Felix Jones who rushes for two long-distance touchdowns.

Prediction: One of the facts (Dallas wins 34-20)

Sun, Nov 8 @ Philadelphia (NBC)
A Cowboys win - One of the 2009 Facts or one of the Rumors?

Dallas returns to the set of their most humiliating 2008 loss. They are unable to redeem themselves as rookie wide receiver, Jeremy Maclin and second-year stand out, DeSean Jackson torch the Cowboys' secondary. Donovan McNabb passes for over 350 yards and the Eagles prevail.

Prediction: One of the Rumors (Raiders win 20-17)

A Cowboys win - One of the 2009 Facts or one of the Rumors?

The Giants assert their dominance over the Cowboys with a dominating defensive display. Former Cowboys defensive end Chris Canty records two sack for his new team and the Cowboys limp home with a .500 record.

All the cancer has been removed. We still have some dead weight, but maybe that will get sorted out in training camp. I'm not even about to make predictions on games yet.

Hopefully the guys who like to be injured all the time are shown the door. Same for players afraid to play football and are riding their draft status.

Less talented? What did those players do besides TO? I would love to know.

I'm not even going to get into this thread, but there is no way, no how, we lose to the Raiders on Thanksgiving. Not going to happen.

I love seeing the 9-7 predictions.

They are valid predictions, because thats what we've been recently.

Maybe this year we can fly under the radar for a little bit of the season.

With the weapons we have and the mismatches we can create, I'll be disappointed with anything less than 11-5, but I'm calling 12-4.

Defense wins championships, and if we can build off of last year, we have a very good unit.

Hell no.

And I hope those crappy uniforms with the white helmets are banished. Hopefully the crackhead in charge of that was fired.

I am confused.

Instead of referencing the giants game 6 days before the final game at the stadium, they reference the ravens game as the reason we cant beat the giants?

there will be close 100,000 there that night. It is going to be one of the most emotionally charged sporting events in recent memory around here.

I wouldnt go chalking up a giants win just yet.

This is by far the worst game by game season prediction I have ever, EVER seen, for ANY season, from anyone. I don't have any issues with people saying we are going to finish 9-7, do I believe it? No, but it isn't an out of this world prediction. To predict that not only do we lose to KC, but we also lose to oakland, and we get swept by both the NYG and the eagles is asinine.
What this author does not realize is when healthy the dallas cowboys beat the teams they are supposed to beat, at least since Romo has been our QB, the raiders and chiefs both fall under that category. To suggest we will lose to both of them is more than laughable.

The national media cracks me up, is losing Owens going to hurt us from a talent stand point? Of course, but Tank Johnson and Adam Jones? Exactly what did they do last season to chalk them up as "losses?"

One thing in our favor is that the schedule is relatively weak in the first half of the season when we have so many youngsters that will be getting their feet under them. By the season's second half, when the schedule gets tougher, our youngsters will hopefully have grown into their roles and will be prepared. I see a 10-6/11-5 season on the horizon...since this article was all about predictions.

Predicting final outcomes is one thing, but predicting fumbles, interceptions and missed field goals is silly IMO. We will not be swept by both Philly and NY. And we'll probably go 4-0 against the crappy AFC West.

I noticed that as well. And a good start will be huge. I know everyone's been concerned with our Dec schedule and finishing strong. That's also important, but we have to be in contention prior to Dec or what's the point.

This team top all the previous December fades with last year's.
It needs to get offf to a good start.

I much rather these predictions then last year's. Maybe the team will get angry and play with some heart. Everybody had them in the SB at the beginning of training camp last year and I think the team just thought all they had to do was show up and teams would be afraid of them.

I will never understand why a team that's supposed to be THIS much worse continues to be projected with the same record they had last year or a loss worse. The media's definitely hedging their bets with the Cowboys. If they make the playoffs, they will all say "I KNEW THEY COULD DO IT. I had them just outside of where they ended up". Really, if the Cowboys are so bad, go ahead and say they're a 6-10 team...loudly.

We lost to an ATROCIOUS Rams team last year and there are multiple other examples of us losing to teams we should have absolutely destroyed..
