I saw on the declared list a curious name. Micheal Hawkins. He was a 5 star DB out of Texas who was at one point homeless then taken in by the football staff. He received a scholarship to OU and was good enough to see extensive playing time as a true freshman. He ended up leaving and couldn't make the adjustment. He is now 3 years out of high school and eligible. This guy has talent in boatloads, he just has had problems adjusting. Great CB size with 4.4 to 4.3 speed. Drafting him with a 6th or 7th round pick and mentoring the guy could be huge. Talk about late round upside picks this would be it. Or we could just take another special teams player late.

So lets give someone who already has issues more money than they have ever seen in their life and see what happens?

If a major university program couldn't get someone turned around its unlikely to happen in the NFL.

Total upside is one thing, realistic upside is another. A CB who hasn't played in 2+ years is as bad as a QB who hasn't played in that long, maybe worse becasue CB is more about instinct and those can get rusty.

To me sounds like someone you try and sign as a UDFA and cross your fingers and pray that they don't blow up spectacularly during TC.

plays for the Dallas Desperados.

Michael Hawkins

Official Bio College: Dallas Desperados (AFL) Height: 6-2
Position: Cornerback Weight: 180
Class: Junior 40-Yard: 4.45

Strengths: Has great size and the frame to get bigger...Is very fast and has excellent timed speed...Is an excellent natural athlete...Has a nose for the ball and knack for making the big play...Still has a lot of potential and upside.

Weaknesses: Very raw and has not played much football, let along against top competition...Needs to add weight...Must get stronger...Needs a lot of technique work...Any team that drafts him would be taking a major gamble.

Notes: Was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school...Began his career with Oklahoma but only played one season...Made the Arena Football League via an open tryout...Real interesting developmental prospect.

If he is on The Desperatos roster the Cowboys can't sign him becasue Jerry owns that team as well. The rules say something about any NFL owner who owns an NFL team and a AFL team can not sign any of their own players with out cutting them first or they must clear waivers first.
That is probably not the exact wording but it is something to that effect.

Dallas can't pick him up as a free agent until all the other teams have a chance. But Dallas could draft him.

I suppose they could draft him. I rally am not sure how that works with the AFL/NFL rules. SO you could be right. But as for signing him out right they must allow him to clear the waiver process somehow.
