Lean Times Coming

Stats about the Cowboys wins in division and out of division since 2016 (10 Years).

On average across those 10 years:

We won 70% of our Division games.
We won 50% of our Non-Division games.

About 9 wins a season across that span. Closer to 9.5 but lets keep it at a round 9.

The Cowboys have Feasted in the division since 2016 almost winning 2/3 of their games.
Most of that 20% gap from 50% to 70% has come from feasting on the Giants/Commanders. As we are about 50/50 with the eagles since 2016.

Giants
We know why the Giants have been a poor team during that span. Now they are getting a legit coach that has a proven track record of not having a losing record and playing his division opponents tough. Up and coming good QB, great RB, solid defense, the Giants are going to be an average to good team in the next 2 years. Which is a big improvement. They could be better, but at the minimum I see them going 8-9 or 9-8 next season and trending up.

Commanders
We know why the Commanders have been a poor team during that span, except for 2024, which was DQ and JD's rookie seasons and they went 12-5. JD was out most of this season and DQ has an aging team on both sides of the ball. They will start replacing/replenishing through the draft and JD will be healthy again. DQ's HC stats are about 50/50. Again, lets assume they are back to 9-8 next year but trending up.

Eagles
The Eagle's are not going anywhere. They will get an OC that fits the system they are trying to run up there and will be back again for the next few years at least. Not trending up but not down either.

So if you have made it this far, all of this is to state that it is highly likely we will see that 70% number come back down to a 50% average over the next 2 years and possibly worse. Meaning they will lose 1 more game a season to divisional opponents which will bring their average wins a season to 8 making them an 8-9 team.

We unfortunately didn't take advantage when we had the opportunity and now it is going to be a much more competitive division for the foreseeable future. Even if we are a better team next year, fix the defense and Dak continues to play well, we are going to have a harder time making the playoffs. Get ready for some leaner times.
We have had lean times for 30 years. Nothing matters to longtime Cowboys fans but deep playoff runs. I don’t care about winning the east or winning a wild card game. Win consecutive playoff games to get the 30 year monkey off our back. Anything short of that is another failed season. Since we are 11 players away from a championship defense, the drought will continue. But at least we’re on the most profitable lol.

I never made it past the title of this thread

"Lean times are COMING"?

THEY'RE COMING??????

as in, the last 30 years have been our glory days, but the party is over guys, get ready for some uncharacteristic down years?

What the heck?!?!?!

That's like telling people who were starving in The Great Depression: "Hey guys... I know the last few years weren't perfect...what with all the starvation, homelessness, funancial ruin and hopelessnes and everything.... but I got a feeling things are about to get REAL bad in the coming years"

Look man, I am down on this team and am apathetic as the next guy.

But my god. This place is unbearable at times. Please quit acting like they just signed a prime Vince Lombardi.

Harbaugh couldn’t win with an MVP Qb and stacked defense every year
The flip side though is it was taking the Bills, Chiefs, Bengals, Patriots, Steelers, to bounce them from the playoffs throughout his tenure. During Lamar's stretch, Bills, Chiefs & Bengals. So, it's not like they were losing to bad teams. And Lamar hasn't been his best in all of those games either.

Maybe some of it is on Harbaugh, impossible to say from the outside. But for as good as the Ravens organization is, they have struggled for years to put a WR unit together that was playoff worthy. Most other years, I would say they had everything else they needed.

I probably should have specified in the title. Lean times coming for division wins. I think we have thrived off divisional wins in the last 10 years. Those are going to become more scarce which will be visually shown with worry record even if we play better in the next few years.

Those "voidable contract years" for the high contracts they constantly renegotiate are going to catch up to the Cowboys in a few years and it will be back to the early 2000's of three consecutive 5-11 seasons.

The NFC East is still the best way for the Cowboys to make the playoffs. New York will be improved because they will actually have a competent coaching staff. Washington can go either way. Their defense was worse than ours last season and they are an old football team. Philadelphia has cracks in the armor and they can’t just go buy anymore players. I guess Howie will find someone that will give him two first round picks for Brown. The Cowboys can win the East.

Times have been lean for 30 YEARS as in playoff failures.
They are getting ready to be even leaner, because now we are going to start to have consistent losing seasons.
Dak ain't getting any younger.
And we have a clueless GM to replace him.
Welcome to NFL purgatory.
