This injury is not a blessing but it forever changes the way we view this player. It's pretty obvious we simply can't count on Lee going forward and we need to prepare for him not contributing any more as if his career is over. While it really stings to make those remarks, it's time to move on. Loved his passion and contributions but sadly this story isn't going to have a good ending. Perhaps a day will come when we will see some flashes of the greatness he once brought. If we are so lucky we should cherish those. But I'm afraid they will be very limited in number.

I know a lot of you guys have posted free agents, but who fits this defense of those free agents and is familiar with the system?

It's football and guys get hurt. At least this injury was not unexpected. How would you be right now if Tyron went down?

If was going to happen then I would rather it happen now and not later. Adjust and move on.

We struggled mightily when he went down last year primarily because the guys behind him were woefully unprepared and there was a gaping leadership vacuum.

You can tell the team is going to struggle with it. Listening to Mincey talk about the conversations that he and Lee had about instilling spirit into the defense tells me that he will be missed profoundly. That being said, it is going to be a heck of a lot easier to replace those roles now than it would be in week 4 or the like.

I imagine that they will be figuring out whether to move Carter inside or Holloman but we will now be trotting out something like Holloman Carter Wilbur and I for one think we will be fine because we still have Durant and Hitchens backing them up. Laurence, UDFA and/or Smith round out the roster. C'est la vie. Il continue.

This is not the same as Lawrence Sims Holloman that we trotted out when he went down against the Packers. The season is 2.5 months away they can prepare.

I know that people are down on Carter but I think people will be pleasantly surprised. Wilber was a revelation at SLB last season and I know people are high on Holloman. Holloman has his neck but Carter and Wilber so far have been durable. All of them are familiar with the system. We aren't even going to have to throw Hitchens to the wolves if Holloman goes down because Durant is on the roster.

This isn't a good thing but there are worse things and from a roster standpoint we are much better prepared then last season.

Good to hear that Holloman still has his neck. Was concerned he misplaced it.

By this same logic, our d-line should have been great last year, since Spencer, Ratliff, Crawford, and Bass were all hurt early in training camp, right? This is bulsh. He is the best player on defense and it isn't a blessing at all.

It's not a blessing for those filled with hate.

More like a curse in plain sight.

Between the blessing in disguise of Romo's back and the blessing in disguise of Lees injury, Dallas may be the most blessed team in the NFL.

Now just need to have a meteor land at Cowboys stadium to force 16 road games so we can all hear about what a blessing that is.

LOL!

General rule of thumb: It's better to talk about a blessing in disguise when the bad thing happens to you and you find the blessing in it.
It's generally not a good thing to talk about blessings in disguise when the bad thing happens to others.
Just saying.

I understand the premises behind say this is a blessing. It does give the Cowboys time to look at alternatives and to get guys working out at the MLB. Clearly not a blessing for Lee and not a blessing losing an outstanding player for the Cowboys. It is what it is and if this was going to happen it is better that it happens now than in training camp or heading into the season.

It's easy to tell who the miserable people are. They are so filled with hate they can't see the forest because of the trees.

Its a blessing in disguise alright. for the Cowboys opponents.

I find it comical also that the GM will find someone to fill in. This is the same guy that starts making excuses, which in turn gives the players an excuse. When Romo went out in 2010, Owner/GM Jones said we lost to a terrible Jax squad because we lost Romo the week before and it affected the team mentally. You could hear him start with that crap last year before the final game too. I'd expect him to come out with a "we cant replace Lee" any minute now.

Funny! Not a blessing, but if it had to happen nows the time. Big Lee fan, I wish his body would hold up. Hopefully Hitchens is better than advertised.

This guy's injury history is really odd.
Has he ever had the same thing twice?
Broken toe, broken wrist (that he played with), strained neck, now an ACL. It seems so fluky and random...except it can't be fully random if something different happens annually.

I would rather 6 or 9 games of this than 0.

Right. I think every team and their fan base wants to lose their best player on defense.... Just so they can be blessed.

I think you miss his point. He should have used if instead of when. The point is instead of throwing a guy out there if Lee gets injured during the season, having the injury this early gives somebody a chance to learn and practice in the middle so the backup is better prepared. Although your statement about Spence, Ratliff, Crawford and Bass more describes the word you used, it would have been better if we had backups better prepared than they were last year.

INJURIES ARE NEVER A BLESSING IF IT TAKES ANYBODY AND ESPECIALLY ONE OF YOUR TWO OR THREE BEST PLAYERS OFF THE FIELD. However, if it happens during the OTAs it isn't quite as difficult to prepare somebody to fill in rather than it happen in the middle of the season and somebody is thrown into the situation.

If we lived in an ideal world, then nobody would ever get injured on the Cowboys' team. Yet every year it seems the Cowboys have more injuries than anybody else. While it is always bad, the timing of the injury can make it even worse. Again the timing is the issue here. I hope Lee will be with the Cowboys for many years and is never injured again. When I saw the news, I told my wife that the Cowboys just lost their BEST player on defense.
