Let’s Talk About Six, Baby: Cowboys’ WR corps ranks highly. Too high?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...p-10-wr-corps-heading-into-2016-season/page/6

Starters: Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley

Key Reserves: Devin Street, Brice Butler

It wasn’t the best of times for the Dallas Cowboys or their passing attack in 2015.

But that doesn’t mean this club is short of talent at wide receiver.

You can’t expect a lot from a team that is forced to use four different starting quarterbacks and whose primary field general misses a total of 12 games. Such was the case with this club, which was without Tony Romo for the three-quarters of the season.

Two-time Pro Bowler Dez Bryant missed seven games and managed just 31 catches for 401 yards and three scores. In each of his previous three seasons, the 27-year-old wideout managed at least 88 catches, 1,200 receiving yards and 12 scores. In 2015, wideouts Terrence Williams and Cole Beasley tied for second on the club with 52 catches and eight scores, five of those touchdowns by Beasley.

Devin Street and Brice Butler are the main reserves. And this group would have a slightly higher ranking if health weren’t such a big issue in 2015. This will be a season to make amends...

Always as a policy, that would be stupid. The original story was on USA Today...

I suppose the suggestion that the Dallas offense will be a challenge to stop and put defensive coordinators on the spot with defending the run, pass, and play action...but, of course, ring tap and ignore all.

If Dez is Dez then top 5 isn't unreasonable. If Dez is what he was last year then 6 is too high.

I was mostly joking.

Are the Cowboys WR2, WR3, WR4, and WR5 collectively above average?

I'm not so sure.

Beasley compares favorably to any slot receiver out there. And as a #2 twill is no slouch either. Once you make it past the top 3 I wouldn't say many teams have a superstar there

Before I clicked the link I had in no order: Healthy GB, Pittsburgh, AZ, Cincinatti..which is pretty generous, and Jacksonville, I dont really have a problem with their top 5 except NYG, so I guess 6 is about right. Somewhere in that neighborhood of 6-8. Eventually they may have to get another real stud next to Dez

I was thinking it was too high .. then you look whose ranked behind us and I don't see anyone deserving to be ranked higher than us TBH

Swap for Bengals, Seahawks, Commanders, Raiders corps? I'll keep our guys.

6th best in the league is delusional, if you ask me.

Does one also question whether or not the receivers for New England merit discussion in productivity?

I think this early praise is a forerunner that correctly predicts a very productive group of receivers, that really doesn't ask for favors from any other team stepping up to the plate. When mixed with Tony Romo and a top notched running game...I would have to carefully consider that picture before any type of disclaimer to the negative.

Oh, they will be good...and a team always wishes to improve upon positional depth.

Well we have a clear cut number 1 and I am not a huge Williams fan but he compares favorably to most number 2 wideouts in the league. He is not a number 1 but he is a solid number 2 when Dez is on the field. Bease is a very good slot option as well. As someone else pointed out in this thread, good luck finding solid options outside of the top 3 on most rosters. In our case, I do like the potential of Butler/Whitehead going into this season.

It's easy to assume we need to upgrade there but we compare favorably, talent wise, to most teams in the league.

Cardinal's
Dolphins
Texans
Jets
Chargers
Broncos
Falcons and bengals were better but they lost some people I think.

Dopey, Sleepy, Grouchy...if we are just providing lists of names.
