Let me show you how the refs completely botched the spotting of the ball after Dak's slide

It was a stupid play call that should never have been called because it was risky and left a razor-thin margin of error.

Let's stop pretending like they were going to score from the 25 yard line on the next play even if they got it spiked.

The offense and defense slept walked through the first half and they got killed in the trenches on both sides of the ball most of the game.

Another question - is there only one official who can mark the ball in those situations, because clearly in the Rams game the offical marking the ball was on the defensive side of the field which likely made it easier to avoid what happened here in both instances - certainly in the second, and why didn't an official from that side of the ball come like that here too?

Exactly, fans are acting like if we could have spiked the ball we would have won the game.

Even if we get the spike with 1 second left, we have one play from the 25 yard line to throw the ball into the end zone with dam near all 11 defenders standing at the goalline. That is like maybe 2-3% chance at best.

It's an interesting play in the sense that yes, the defense was caught off guard. They were not expecting it and didn't quite know how to react. Immediately tackling/touching Dak as he slid was, in hindsight, probably the wrong move. Let him slide - he still has to be touched down.

It wasn't an interesting play, it was a %*$#ing stupid play.

No matter how you want to sugar coat the ending of last nights game, Dallas lost it on it's own.

After watching that last play, given the situation and time, I'm pretty certain that was a called play by the offense. If your quarterback can't thrown it in the end zone from where they were twice with the amount of time they had, no way to sugar coat it, time for a new quarterback.

We have to go back to the Cowboys' last brutal playoff defeat, in 2019 against the Rams.

In that game, the Rams were driving just before halftime to try and secure a long field goal attempt for a kicker some of you may have heard of, named Greg Zuerlein.

With no timeouts left, Jared Goff completes a pass across the middle to Robert Woods, who is tackled and immediately spots the ball himself. The center grabs the ball and the offense gets in position to snap it. At no point does anyone hand the ball to the referee. In fact, if you blink, you may have missed the referee completely. He zooms into the screen momentarily, lightly taps the top of the football, then scurries out of the way so the Rams can snap the ball and clock it.

Watch:

Contrary to what Tony Romo would like you to believe, the referee does not need to be physically handed the football, they simply need to touch it. Biadasz had the ball in hand, on the turf, with four seconds left on the clock. A competent referee simply needed to run to the line (but not into the quarterback), touch the football, and then get out of the way, allowing it to be snapped and clocked with about one second to spare.

A few things:

1. This is not the reason the Cowboys lost.

2. Asking Dak to run, slide, and clock the ball was still a dumb, and far too risky, play call.

3. This is not a conspiracy against the Cowboys; it's incompetent officiating.

4. Regardless of points 1, 2 & 3, the fact of the matter is the Cowboys absolutely should have gotten the opportunity to run one more play from the 24-yard-line.

Play started with 3 extra seconds and ended with 3 seconds left. It was a dumb play

Theoretically, the 49ers could have just let Dak slide and not touched him down, thus letting a few more seconds run off the clock and effectively ending the game without the Cowboys even getting to the line to attempt a snap.

Wrong. Once a qb slides feet first the play is over regardless if the defense touches him or blows him a kiss.

You are looking for any example that supports your view, and the one you found doesn't even do that. The ref still touches the ball. Watch any play. Usually the player tosses the ball to the ref so he can spot the ball. Why would you dispute this was the right thing to do? And you aren't even addressing that the Cowboys players blocked the ref from getting to the ball, and the ref felt he had to re-spot the ball because the players gave themselves an extra yard.

You got your videos mixed up. That's Zeke proving that his PCL is just fine. No need for Pollard.
Ya know I knew as soon as season was over he was going to say the real issue. He should have stayed out and the coaches should have kept him out.
This team is more concerned with playing players according to their salary than their current ability.

its so funny to me we put pollard in on one scoring drive and we look great. So what do our coaches do? Never put him in again. That’s dallas cowboys football

The ref`s hold no blame, your example is wrong different clock time and yards as well as running the ball vs passing. Ref did his job correctly just pure stupidity on the whole O side of the ball.

As a referee you should understand what is going on late in a game and be ready.
No excueses on the referees part on that play.

As you watch the Goff play watch the referee was right there.

Our game they had to run from 20 yards back to spot the ball - they were wasting seconds on the game - Not the Cowboys.
Their fault. Referee should have stopped play put 2 seconds on clock - started play.

Why take responsibility for your referee team not being in the right place.
Just end the game. Run for the exit.

NFL referees are not trained enough to react to these situations.

NFL's fault.

The NFL referees do not train year round doing games. They should.

NFL's fault.

You think this year was bad? After Dak’s comment after the game…just wait and see what the officiating is like next year. Every year for the rest of his career?

Exactly!

This and more misinformed statements during the game is why I've stated that Romo was wrong. It's unbelievable how someone who was our QB for 10+ seasons, broke most franchise records and has been a game broadcaster for 4+ seasons says such things wrongly at times.
He wasn’t saying you have to hand the ball to the ref. He was just saying that was the smarter thing to do to make it easier for the ref to spot it correctly (vs. the ref having to locate the ball on the ground, verify the spot, and then move it if necessary). Amazing how you have a whole post that is so wrong.

Nobody is sugar coating anything. I said this exact thing in the OP of this thread. Reading comprehension isn’t a strong suit of yours, is it?
