And that is on Shannhan seeing he was head coach/VP of the team. And I am on my phone and not in a mood to go back over it.

Kyle did a great job with Robert in 2012. The combination of his injury+not wanting to run anymore ruined his career.

Mike screwed up the special teams and screwed up the D. And yes this convo has been with you because you have been all over Mike's nuts since he got fired at the end of 2013

Oh you're talking about me saying Shanahan was a good coach. I thought you meant that I wouldn't agree with you that the defense and special teams sucked.

No need to look it up, I do think that Shanahan is a good coach with a very good offensive mind. I do think it was his simplified scheme that he used in 2012 that allowed Griffin to do ok. Shanahan asked Griffin to make few decisions and reads overall. If his first read wasn't open, then run. Otherwise it was a hand-off to Morris or keep it and run.

So if you're saying that is my opinion, then yes, you're right.

Anyway, I just thought it was a pretty interesting old conversation all the way around. You sure didn't leave much wiggle room for yourself if you were wrong about Griffin and where the franchise was headed.

I think you are failing to see that the special team and D are also part of Shanahan's coaching duty. Which is more so what led to the debacle of 2013.

And yes, I give Kyle plenty of credit for working a great scheme with rookie Griffin.

The physical skills as far as arm strength and mobility, yes. However, it is what is between his ears that makes him a bad QB. He didn't have to learn much that NFL QB's have to have in order to have success in that 2012 offense.

Some people say it was his leg injury that ruined him, but to me that just seems crazy. He might have lost a little speed but it has nothing to do with his inability to have even a modicum of success in a normal NFL offense. He can still run faster than almost every other NFL QB. What is failing him is between his ears, and it is what most good QB's have. Not his knee.

He can't see things like he needs to. He can't process what he does see like he needs to. He can't make the decisions as quickly as he needs to. He can't anticipate like he needs to. He can't feel the pressure like he needs to, and he can't put the ball where he wants with the consistency that he needs to.

What is failing Griffin in the NFL is most certainly not his knee or his physical traits.

YOu are right ! Griffin is stupid !!!!

Like I've said before, Shanahan is a very bright offensive mind. I do think he might not have chosen wisely in his defensive and special teams coordinators. The main issue that I saw was just the general dysfunction of the franchise, having to work for Danny, and not having a front office that made very good decisions.

Shanahan certainly wouldn't be the first coach to have difficulties under Snyder. Hell even Gibbs did. Schotty didn't even get the chance to get a second season.

Shanahan failing in Washington doesn't change my mind that he is a very good offensive coach.

Shanny was the FO, that is part of what you aren't understainding, He had the control and power contractually for all football decisions. So I don't excuse anything of his tenure at all.

Yes, I do agree, he is an excellent offensive coach. But 2013 wasn't a debacle because of Griffin and the O (the dirty secret is the O scored plenty of points in 2013)

That was a Shanny led disaster with his special teams and D. Which you fail to acknowledge

2) Nobody cares. The team is contending for a playoff spot in 2015. Thats been obvious since last year.

Your team didn't contend for a playoff spot last year they went 4-12. What's obvious is they have QB issues and a coach who's under a lot of stress and is on the hot seat. Until the Skins get solid QB play they aren't going anywhere.

atter how terrible the Commanders are, they almost always play tough against Dallas. There is no question about that. I have heard plenty of their fans say that as long as they beat Dallas twice a year, that can be their only two wins, lol. The fan base and owner is obsessed with Dallas, and that passes down to their players. Dallas is their super bowl.

That will never change and playing them will never be easy for Dallas.

But none of that changes just how dysfunctional and crappy a franchise that is. Three first round picks and a second for Griffin. :lmao:

How franchise crushing is that? Shanahan was the only reason the guy even did well in his rookie season. I said it then that Shanny was the coach of the year for giving Robert simple reads where it was either the one WR was open or he took off running. That and Shanny's patented run game was the only reason Bob wasn't embarrassed out of the league even sooner than he has been.

Then, to make it even more funny for the rest of the league... the Commanders got rid of the one person that was worth a crap and fired Shanahan and kept Griffin.

I mean, it is like a story that was written by a Commander hating guy. It could not have gone worse for them and it isn't getting better anytime soon. They'll win here or there but just wow. What horrific decisions that franchise has made.

I can vouche for the skins fans wanting to only beat Dallas and thier unexplainable obsession with the Cowboys. I live in VA and these fans are almost as obnoxious as Philly and steelers fans.

They are bad but not as bad as steeler fans ! The only thing worse than a steeler fan is a steeler player or the steelers as a whole team. As you can tell I think the steelers suck.

The fans are already boycotting the product. They have gone from 91+ K stadium with a 10 year season ticket waiting list to 70 K (seats tarped over), going week to week to sell out. Absolutely amazing.

It's not far for them to drive to see the Ravens.

What Skins fans fail to realize is they forced out their best opportunity for success from a coaching standpoint and they don't even realize it. I knew if given time, he would have turned that franchise around. But the dysfunction of the organization, impatient fickle fans, and Mara did him in. I think we as Cowboys fans tried to do the same thing with Garrett, but our FO did the right thing and not bow to fan/media pressure.

With respect to Shanny, the RGIII pick was the biggest reason for his failings. When he took over, the Skins were in shambles and devoid of talent. Snyder wanted his shiny new marketing toy and sold the farm for it. It was obvious that Shanny wasn't sold on it or they wouldn't have drafted another QB in the 4th after giving up 3 first and a second round pick for the savior. Had they avoided RGIII, Shanny could have added 4 potential starters around Cousins to take pressure off of him by shoring up the OL/DL. The loss of cap $s didn't help since it would have allowed the Skins to fill some talent gaps as well, but we know Snyder would have wasted a lot of it swinging for the fence for big name FAs. My take on Shanny's defensive whoas is they lacked talent and the loss of draft picks and cap $s prevented the infusion of talent. Shanny inherited a team that needed 3-4 years of rebuilding to be competitive the RGIII pick and cap $s set him back at least another 4 years. And that is why they are where they are today. Still sitting at the bottom of the NFL - not because of Shanny.

danny boy is the reason and until he is gone the skins will never be steady contenders. Have to laugh at anyone trying to claim they are contenders this year.

Shanahan had full and total control of the entire org.

It was his decision whether or not to make the trade. It was his decision to hire Haslett. It was his decision to go with Rex/Beck in 2011 and sign mediocre FAs rather then totally tank the season and have a legit shot at Luck

The 36M dollar cap penalty+the RG3 trade were crippling. Shanny's ego only made things worse, and a bad situation unteneble.

The best thing that could happen for the team is to quickly move on from RG3 (which it appears the team is doing) let Jay do his thing the way he wants to in order to get a good evaluation on him, and then either give him time or let GMSM pick his coach and continue to draft well.
