Let Us Talk About the #1 Seed! & Other Stuff

It's now time. We are 10-1. The next closest NFC team is at 7 wins. And there's only 6 games left (for most teams).

At this point, we would basically need to crap the bed and one of those other teams would need to run the table from here on out. Now, obviously anything is possible in today's NFL....but we are in GREAT shape right now. Soak it up fellow Cowboys fans; we are witnessing history.

A couple of random thoughts/questions as I sip on my beer this Friday night-
  • I wonder, if we secure the 1 seed before week 17, do we rest our starters during the last game or not? I remember in 2014 we basically treated week 17 like a regular week, and the game had no impact on the postseason.
  • If we do get the 1 seed I think it will be HUGE. And not so much because we'll have home field advantage...but more so because our rookie led offense won't have to deal with traveling.
  • Our defense has been the ongoing question mark....but they really haven't cost us any games yet. I think that they are "good enough" with Barry and Mo in the lineup, so let's hope they get healthy ASAP.
  • Will we ever score a non-offensive touchdown? Seriously? 11 games in and not a single ST TD or defensive TD? What the heck?
  • I like how Dak and Zeke are career winners. Both guys are accustomed to shining on big stages and carrying their teams. It's comforting to have TWO guys like that paving the way. There's intangible value there that can't be overstated.
  • Dez Bryant truly is the X factor for our offense. I say this because we are a modern day "run heavy" offense that's capable of functioning without him....but with him we are basically unstoppable. It really is a "pick your poison" situation for opposing defenses.
  • Diane Lane is hot.
  • Boulevard Brewing's Tell Tale Tart Ale is delicious.

In 2014 they did not have Romo, Morris, Butler, and Green to put in ....... I think if the game means nothing ...... alll 4 of them will start.

In 2007 we treated the last game vs. Washington as an exhibition and then came out rusty from the bye and the Giants beat us at home.

No way do I want to treat the last game as an exhibition & rest all the starters, especially if we have the bye.

Will be a tough decision come week 17 if we have already clinched the #1 seed. Rest the main starters and it would be three weeks with no game action.

Indeed. You'd think the rooks (at least Zeke) would benefit from the extra rest...but who knows? Just have to trust the FO. Will be a tough call no matter what, and certainly second guessed if things don't work out well (puke).

Even if we clinch everything early and week 17 becomes a meaningless game, I would keep starters in first half. I don't think this team will go complacent. We look to have a very strong minded group of players who have their eyes on the prize.

I think the question of whether Romo would play the hypothetical meaningless Week 17 game is a discussion all onto itself. Would you feature him as a tease to the offseason to show he's still got it and potentially up his value? Or do you respect Romo too much to put him out there in harms way for a meaningless game? My bet would be the latter.

I don't like the idea of taking Week 17 off and having that long between games. It'd be different if we were playing wildcard weekend and wanted to use Week 17 essentially as a bye.

Resting starters with soreness and injuries is a good thing. But if you make the offensive line too weak, the quarterback will probably take a beating if the other team goes all out to get him.

It's the Eagles. They will be on a mission to injure any QB we trot out there. They would do anything they could to derail another Super Bowl run.

Those starters that are banged up and need time to heal sit. That would be Doubtful or worse on the injury report. Everybody else? Go win the damn football game. Its going to be against the Eagles in their house. And they might need that win to get in.

What are we going to do? Roll over for them? No. You do everything to can to win every game. That's the way this works.

Teams that don't do that always seem to regret it later.

Not certain I agree with this. The offense used almost all of the entire second quarter to move down the field and score. Then allowed the Giants to score on a four or five play drive at the end. Then barber was spent because he ran so much in the first half. They did not use Julius Jones in the game at all. Barber was done and a shell of what he was in the first. So poor coaching caused some of that.

Dallas was in the game in the second half but became one dimensional. A couple of crucial dropped passes and the game was lost.

Let Romo in. He will have a start in possible Superbowl season and will be auditioning for Elway. Can't hold him out thinking he may get hurt. That will reinforce the prevailing view on Romo at this juncture .

I think if you decide to rest the starters, then you ask Romo if he wants to start week 17. He will say yes for sure. It will be his chance to prove he's still got it and it's important to get him some game action!
