Let's cut Dez

I see we have another Dez apologist here :clap:If you don't think either of those guys could have 55-60 catches, 800 yards and 7 touchdowns, then you're delusional. Because that is what Dez had averaged the last two seasons.

For proper perspective, in 2016:
-there were 67 WR with more than 55 catches
-there were 49 WR with more than 800 yards
-there were 16 WR with more than 7 TD

In other words, even if it wasn't Pryor or Watkins, PLENTY of guys can fill the statistical shoes of Dez Bryant.

Proper perspective would indicate receiving numbers overall were down for us in 2016 due to our emphasis in the running game.

In 2016, no team in the league ran the ball more than we did.

What does that mean?

More rushing means less passing, which means less opportunities for receivers, resulting in less receiver production.

No one wants to point to the fact that Daks inexperience is what's hindering this receiving core, how's Beasley, Wittens and Twills numbers this year?

No, a few fans notice it, trust me. It’s just the simple-minded knee jerkers that look at numbers in a vacuum without context that unfortunately are the most vocal; a passionately ignorant bunch they are.

I don't care who the quarterback is, an elite reciever will find a way to impact a game. As big as Dez is, last Sunday was a rare occasion where he was able to break away from the first tackler. Typically, he is tackled upon first contact. He is 50-50 on difficult catches, his route running is terrible, he gives marginal effort when it appears the game will be lost.

Simply put, the biggest games lately are lost when Dez "almost"makes the catch that would have meant victory.

When Michael Irvin was playing it was very rare when he dropped the ball. He would stare at his hands as if they had betrayed him. Every play was maximum effort, he wasn't the Playmaker for nothing.

Dez Bryant is not worth 15 million a year. He wasn't worth losing the players that the Cowboys couldn't keep due to his contract.

What is a "#1" receiver? Do teams really need one? The Cowboys need a receiving squad of competitive contributors that work hard, practice hard, and play hard.

They should redo the remainder of the contract or cut him in June but they won't. I don't know if anyone else has noticed but WR is Jerry's favorite position, the one he relates no to the most. They are cocky, flamboyant and spontaneously exciting. Jerry has ruined the future of the team by overestimating their value. Just look at the trades for Joey Galloway and Roy Williams. Look at the acquisition of TO. The position that Jerry has failed at the most when it comes to obtainng value is WR.

Elite Antonio Brown ........................Big Ben
Elite Julio Jones..............................Matt Ryan
Elite OBJ.........................................Eli Manning

Elite Demaryus Thomas..................Peyton Manning
Elite Dez Bryant..............................Tony Romo

Mediocre Demaryus Thomas................Siemian, Oswieler, Lynch
Mediocre Dez Bryant.............................Weeden, Cassell, Moore, Prescott
Mediocre Antonio Brown.......................Vick, Landry
Mediocre DeAndre Hopkins..................Oswieler, Savage

If the argument is that we are a run first team so we don't need to pay a wr that much of the salary cap then you have a point but I just don't think that Dez's stat truly reflect his abilities rather more so the ability of the passers that are throwing him the ball.

We were a run first team when the FO decided to pay Dez too much. His passers ability to throw him the ball had nothing to do with all the passes he dropped. Sounds to me like you are making excuses for the man.

Exactly.

You can say “I don’t care who the QB is...” but it doesn’t change the reality that who your QB matters.

I didnt know we needed an ELITE wr to win a super bowl??

They sale jerseys more than guarantee super bowl wins

Defense, Good/Great QB play, and a reliable running game usually wins it....

So you cut Dez because of his High Contract number but what will it cost to replace him? Laron Landry perhaps. Can you sign him for 8 mill a year? doubt it. Next up is Twill, how did that work out when Dez was hurt? Mr Im good every 3-4 games. So if we draft one to replace him....why don't we draft one and keep him. We can clear out as much cap money as we need. I think it is time to keep every talented guy we can , clear the cap money, bring in some top free agents and win a Super Bowl for petesake.

Can't be.......I heard right here that Dez doesn't require double teams anymore. Lol

That's not what coaches/announcers mean when they say double coverage.

If you notice the Safety is not covering the deep area and couldn't help on a go route. Instead the Safety is is split between the two receivers and the CB plays outside leverage which is not a true man coverage position because the CB can't defend the inside route.

True double coverage would have the CB playing true man coverage with the Safety covering over the top. The Safety wouldn't be looking at the other receiver.

It was a bad play by the DB covering Rod Smith. He let him easily get the inside when there was no inside help.

Sorry bro but NO. LOL. Babe is both an announcer and a former NFL QB.
You arent going to mansplain Babe.

Reality is Dallas has had so few real threats other than Dez that he has been doubled even when he didn't really deserve it.
Witten is running a 5.0 40 nowadays, TWill chest catches balls so can only run certain routes, Butler is a 2 catch a game guy and Beasley is like 5'7" and 180.

When Dez isn't in the game, the passing offense is TERRIBLE.

Dez gets 48% of the Cowboys' intermediate-to-deep targets (15+ yards). There are only 5 teams on which just one player gets more than 45% of these targets.

Passer rating on 15+yard targets
55% JJones 92.5
other Falcons 63.0

53% Brown 82.6
other Steelers 57.2

50% Green 83.3
other Bengals 93.2

50% Anderson 109.8
other Jets 123.3

48% Bryant 33.2
other Cowboys 119.7

On routes of less than 15 yards, Prescott-to-Bryant has been much more effective, with a passer rating of 97.4.
