I think this is the wrong choice. I would have gone with Turner. I am not a big fan of Wade Phillips. If not Turner, I would have gone in a totally different direction, with one of the young coaches, like Singletary. I think, once again, its all about comfort for Jerry, and I think he is more comfortable with Phillips than Turner. Having said this, I'm hoping I'm wrong and Jerry is right. Lord knows I'm tired of mediocrity.

i think this is a good move for us, we have an offense that is already very good and with wade we should sort out our defensive problems. i like this move and think it will be a big step forward for us.

We needed a real change on D; schemes, leadership, maybe some players.
On O we are in good shape except at RG. Makes sense to get a defensive oriented coach. And THIS coach has a winning record- and one of his playoff losses was pretty much like ours- a one in a million play.

I actually think the opposite. For once in Jerrys life, he went outside of his warm place, okay for the 2nd time. Jerry could've easily gone with someone he knew, and someone who would basically kiss up to him, but he went with someone who is not from his chain of buddies, and went with someone who has experience, and someone who could make a heck of a defense.

All we have to do is find the perfect offensive coordinator, and I smell super bowl.

While I could understand Jones going with Norv Turner and/or Wade Phillips, for the sake of defense continuity and drastic improvement in their performance, I wanted Phillips. While Riveria might also have been a good candidate, I believe he would have made too many changes on the defense to get enough done this year. Wade's around 62/63 which should give him 2 good years to raise our defense to SB level. Now what about other coaching positions? Bring them on.

I agree with this 100%.

I was dying, hoping and praying it would be Phillips. I just don't see anyone else out there on the market that can bring this type of defensive pressure that we're going to need, except for maybe Cowher.

This is the right move.Jerry has been looking for
somebody to fill Parcells shoes and he found him,
literally. His shoes, socks, pants, etc. etc. etc.:D :D
All kidding aside,I think it's a good move and the defense
has to benefit from it.

seconded.

Jerry didn't go for the comfort / nostalgia pick in this case - he made the choice that made the most sense.

Big ups to Jerry Jones this morning.

And best of all, he can teach all his 3-4 strategies to the new DC, so if in a couple of years Wade does nothing, we have some young guns on staff that know how to run that awesome 3-4.

Someone -- I can't remember who -- reported that Norv didn't think Jason Garrett was ready to call plays. Plus, he had his own defensive coordinator in mind (Rivera), when I think Jerry already had his mind set on Todd Bowles.

I wonder if he picked Phillips mostly because he was agreeable to the two coordinators that Jerry already has in place.

Not necessarily an inspiring choice, but it's better than Turner IMO. At least Phillips isn't 30-something games under .500 as a head coach.

Personality-wise, Phillips is the opposite of Parcells. A friendly, down-to-earth Texan who gets along with everybody.

I see what Jerry's thinking. This is a team that Jerry feels can go deep in the playoffs and contend for a Super Bowl. He just couldn't let himself turn the team over to a young guy who would be getting his first head coaching job.

I agree.

I think Norv would've been the choice if he was willing to accept Garrett as play-caller - and there were reports he didn't want to keep TO.

While I'm glad we didn't go with Norv, I don't like the fact that Jerry is just apparently looking for a HC who is agreeable with his decisions on the staff and personnel.

All the pieces that made us one of the top ranked offenses last year is still here. So Wade as head coach is a no brainer. You add Garrett to help develope Romo with Soprano and we have a pretty good football team and we havent even started the draft or FA yet.
