Gruden...still young and aggressive with a winning record of 100-81-0 as a HC. He turns 47 in 2010 with a SB ring and a 5-4 playoff record, despite having some mediocre QB's to guide his teams. I think Gruden can be very successful with Romo as his QB. Gruden has been there and done that, unlike Garrett who's just 3 years younger and has accomplished nothing as a coach.

FWIW

you make some salient points there

IMO...if it happens...it's going to be Holmgren.

JJ says it's all about helping Tony Romo be a better QB, and he's the guy to do it. He's proven it.

Jerry and him have a solid relationship, and he's not the "huge" name like Cowher that will overshadow Jerry, like Parcell's did.

I hope we have a very sucessful season...either way..I can see Wade riding off into the sunset....Superbowl win/no playoffs and dumped.

BTW....Gruden would have a heart attack at the ripe old age of 47 if had to coach Romo! He couldn't handle it....but it would be fun to see them go back and forth on NFL Films!!!

Cowher was a target of mine at one point but not any longer.

I do not want a coach who can stand being out of football this long. If they are that burned out they won't last.

BP left when the time was right because he was burned out. He did a great job building up the organzation but it was time for him to leave. He wanted Jerry's job and that wasn't gonna happen so he had to leave.

If we get a 60 year old coach I want one that can install a system that lasts and comes with excellent coaches around him. Its pointless to give a guy like BP or Holmgren the job and they can't bring in people they trust day 1. They killed us with Bill because his targets were already hired in many instances. We ended up with reaches like Mo Carthon.

Garrett lost a lot of luster last year but he may well be the best overall choice for the long haul. He is a highly intelligent football lifer.

If we do go outside this is the best pick. Gruden could be that long term guy that we really need. Frankly, he's entertaining as hell and, honestly, 9-7 over the past two years in TB is pure smoke and mirrors with their limited talent.

I hear you and others that get on Garrett. I understand it, I do.

BUT... I think that a made play here and made play there and we sustain drives and some ball games maybe turn out differently.

So with that said I think its somewhat kneejerk to label Garrett as anything other than promising with some flashes of great game calling.

Maybe Roy will make more plays that sustain drives and change the complete outlook of Garrett's playcalling.

Agreed. If it's anyone outside, I think I prefer Gruden at this point.

And his offenses are a bore to watch.

If we're going to run a west coast offense I would go with Shannahan.

I've always said that if you put Brad Johnson, Brian Greise, Chris Simms, Bruce Gradowski, or an ancient Jeff Garcia in the right offense that they are going to tear it up. That Gruden couldn't produce an exciting offense with those players really says it all.

LOL, good point...

Still, I've always thought that Gruden was overrated--he got more credit than he deserved in Oakland and Tampa Bay.

And all those luminaries were given the job by... Jon Gruden.

I gotta laugh at all the Gruden guys, this team does not have enough vets to suit Gruden.

First thing he will do is sign a bunch of over the hill players. :D

So now we blame the coach for the personnel? Geez, wherever Brad Johnson goes some coach is taking the blame.

Considering the fact that Bruce Allen was Gruden's guy?

Yeah, I'd ultimately blame any personnel mistakes on him.

Without a hint of hesitation, Bill Cowher.

And with even less hesitation, he's massively overrated

If you want the village bonehead, I guess he's the guy

On the other hand, if you promise me he'll bring his Stealer biased refs with him and they'll suddenly become Cowboy-biased, I'll reconsider.

if Garrett has another season like he did last year, Holmgren is our man. He brings respect to the head coaching position.
