Let's Talk About Clowney

Guys need to start paying attention to all these moves being made they're really also for twenty twenty six they don't have that many draft picks.

They can gain more if they want to take one of these 1st and turn it to into a couple other ones but right now we don't have a 2nd round pick what do you mean?

Also if somehow they end up trading Pickens for another first round pick which is possible I'm not saying it's gonna happen but if they put a 1st round tender on him if he ends up leaving then yeah we'll have more draft picks we'll have to then add a receiver in there but right now we are over the cap and we don't have very many draft picks,

here enjoy...

  • Round 1: 2 picks (one original, one from the Micah Parsons trade)
  • Round 2: Traded to the New York Jets for Quinnen Williams
  • Round 3: Traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for George Pickens
  • Round 4: 1 pick
  • Round 5: 3 picks (one original, two compensatory for Jourdan Lewis and DeMarcus Lawrence)
  • Round 6: Traded to the New Orleans Saints for Asim Richards and a 2028 7th round pick
  • Round 7: 1 pick (acquired from the Bengals for Logan Wilson)
Yow! You're right! Not having 2nd AND 3rd round pick hurts BAD. And neither GB's or Dallas picks will be early round picks. Kind of negates the additional 1st rounder.
Thanks for pointing that out.

But still, who goes away at DE?

So if the 'Boys DO resign Clowney, and they DO spend a 1st or 2nd on a DE, which one currently on the roster is NOT brought back next year?
I'd imagine we bring them all back and draft one. D-EZE, Clownsey, Williams, Houston, Fowler Jr, plus 1st round pick. That gives you veteran leadership and a few young guns.

Doesn't negate it as at all it's still 2 1st round picks either one of those could be valuable if you wanted to say trade down to somebody they get our one and we get there two and say a 4II don't know the values but or you get two better players you can move up and down within the 1st round with those two picks and still come out with better players it's going to be a quality versus quantity draft...

Like I said, outside looking in, iif they decide to trade Pickens because he wants too much money, he's not going to be happy on the tag, you don't want an unhappy player here, you can get a 1st round pick for George Pickens, you can trade that for multiple picks in this draft, and there you go now you just add wide receiver to your needs but I'm just saying don't look ahead I just want to remind you we didn't have very many draft picks we're also over the cap so a lot of these moves we made this year to get better are also moves counting on 2026 starting better... those moves that were made Not really to win in 2025 that may not happen we're we're yes we are a better team we're going to finish the season stronger there's a shot the playoffs these moves were made for next year so you can count what we've done so far like recently as somewhat of the offseason for next year...

They will definitely have to have to get creative, but it does not negate a first round pick there's still 1st round picks...

They don't need to be high up in the first round or wherever you're thinking they're still better than a 2nd round pick because you get to pick first you have to pick of the litter you have more valuable picks up there to decide from then you would later in rounds...

Sam Williams and Dante Fowler are free agents. But I wouldn't re-sign Fowler. He's getting $6 million and he really didn't show this year.

Clowney was already a known commodity. A merc.
Doesn't mean he won't take a path he thinks can make him more money. He's certainly not "just happy to be a Cowboy." He continues to produce, he will want to be paid more, Cowboys or not.

The years he has been "paid" have been when coming off a 9 sk season. He is currently at 4. So unlikely he will get a big contract again.

"Big" is not what I meant. I just meant more than he's making now.

Even a rookie should know where to line up. This is the pros.
I don't know if he just has trouble gauging it. I mean, on the third-down penalty, he practically had his head on the ground staring at the ball. I wonder if it's a spatial issue.

He’s on his 7th team in 12 seasons and would likely prioritize staying here if given a fair offer. He’s been a decent replacement for D-Law but there’s a strong possibility Dallas takes a DE with a 1st rounder in April.
Tank is a good comparison. Similar players, Clowney just isn’t quite as good. Lots of hype in college bc of one play and bc he was a freak athlete. Always been just OK as a rusher and better against the run. Good depth though bc he isn’t going to get pushed around.

Jebadon Clownsey, as the Fake Jerry Jones called him.

Anyway, this guy was a number 1 overall pick for a reason.

He's helping to make this new defensive line come into its own lately and has definitely surprised me some.

He's also a very smart player.

Our ends are starting to look a lot better as the season has gone on, and I think Clowney's veteran presence has been a factor in that.
He’s a nice player to have in a limited role

Giants, Eagles, Broncos, Chiefs, Lions. Shall I go on? I like this DE group a lot, but we need a guy whom opposition DCs have to scheme for. I like Ezeiruaku’s chances of becoming that sort of player, but as good as his rookie season has been, that ain’t happening overnight.
The Giants? What? No
The Broncos yes they have #1 rush unit in the league.
The Chiefs? What? No
The Lions? What? No

No teams are not just lining up with probowl rushers at DT and DE in todays league.

Giants have Dexter Lawrence, Brian Thomas, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux. That’s plenty rushing talent on both the edge and through the middle.
Chiefs have Jones on the inside and Karlaftis on the edge.
Lions have Reader and Onwuzurike (yes, I know he’s injured, but he’s not dead) on the inside, with Hutchinson on the edge.

You asked which other teams have ‘impact pass rushers’ on both the edge and interior. I’ve given you the names above. You’re welcome.

[Also, it’s just rude to be as dismissive as you were here. You’re better than that (I hope).]

I was meh on the signing. I was wrong. He definitely has been a big help.

The players you mentioned have bigger names than they do production. Donovan Eziraku has better stats than Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux had trade rumors swirling strongly at the trade deadline, the Giants are disappointed with his returns. Their real pressure comes from their DTs.

The Chiefs fans have complained the entire season about their edge rushers. They sacked Dak 0 times in our game, and hardly pressured either. George Karlaftis has only 5 sacks on the season.

The lions had the best argument to make at the beginning of the season but injuries have torn them apart and they no longer are pressuring at high rates from the DT and DE positions.

And I wasn't dismissive I just said no to the teams you listed above and am now giving you the explanation for why it was a no. So back to my original premise teams are not just running around out here with elite pass rushing production from both DT and DE. it overwhelmingly is 1 or the other. If you are elite at one and even above average at the other, you are golden.

He was a better player than he is now. He's still pretty solid, but I see him as a bridge player.

Honestly, I also think we finally get really active in FA this off-season. Maybe not at DE. But that also means maybe. I just expect some bold FA moves and trades.

Should be interesting.

Jerral Wayne wants to win now..

Jethro's finally ready to spend bucks and get that W

Would you re-sign Sam? He was not good at all the first half of the season but has been doing some good things lately.

Fowler's actually playing solid in rotation. He's got a couple sacks and a bunch of QB hits, caused holding penalties. Sam Williams has stepped up from dismal to promissing. He is coming back from injury, so we should probably have given him some slack. It's not like he was lighting up the league pre-injury. He was still figuring the game out. We'll have to sign them both on the cheap unless we bring in a gangster DE via free agency.
