Let's Talk About Clowney

Jebadon Clownsey, as the Fake Jerry Jones called him.

Anyway, this guy was a number 1 overall pick for a reason.

He's helping to make this new defensive line come into its own lately and has definitely surprised me some.

He's also a very smart player.

Our ends are starting to look a lot better as the season has gone on, and I think Clowney's veteran presence has been a factor in that.
Other than lining up offsides, I like what he's done here. Not sure why a veteran like him should be having a problem with where to line up.

The Cowboys are getting the tried and true, patented Jadeveon Clowney experience.

Clowney has been on 6 teams in 7 years, despite always playing pretty darn good. Here he is on Dallas, playing pretty darn good.

But this spring, when it comes time to pay him, we'll start making excuses. "We can find a guy with more pass rush upside." "We've got some young DEs who need snaps" So we'll let him walk. And come kickoff 2026, he'll sign a one-year deal with a new team and start playing "pretty darn good" for someone else.

Clowney's had a strange career, and it's difficult to put a "good" or "bad" label on it. Never lived up to #1 overall pick expectations, never had a 10-sack campaign, never got a contract extension longer than 2 years, started for 11 seasons, and always played better then average. He's been a really consistent run-stopping #2 end.

When you put it all together, his career looks a lot like DLaw's. I actually think Clowney's been underrated, and I lean to the "good" side for labeling him. I think if he was say the 10th pick in the 2014 draft, instead of the 1st, people would judge him a lot more fairly.

Yeah LB in the first is the best option. I’m confident they’ll use one of their firsts on LB. The other first will likely be CB, S or DE. But Dallas has traditionally used first rounders on DE.
i dont follow college so i dont know who it can be...but i want a hard hitting, playmaking safety. And I dont wanna wait til the 4th round. And yes bring Clowney back. i kinda thought he was washed up. but he has been very good

Sam Williams has brought it as well since the bye.

When Clowney signed he said he was at the best facilities in the NFL at the Star Frisco . If offered a decent contract he will be thrilled to come back in 26 . Very nice veteran rotational piece . Hope Houston comes back as well .

And this latest Sam Williams in his contract year I’ve never seen before . Playing smart and relentless.

Dude,is a straight up beast,i don't think we're using him enough, even he thinks he could play more but he said its up to the coaches..he said this in his post game interview.

This is why it's key to have him in a rotation.

I expect the Cowboys to pick up one more end this off-season.
I think we'll pick up EDGE and LB. Hopefully, Malik Davis ends up being a solid RB2, and it'll be easier to round out the roster this offseason.

It's hilarious, I wanted to sign him like 2 or 3 years ago and everyone on this forum was saying he's washed or he's a free agent for a reason

The cash he was demanding 2-3 seasons ago was stupid.
He's putting up the same production now as 2-3 seasons ago but at about half the cap.

It’s nice to have a dominant DE, but if you don’t have one you can still win a Super Bowl. There are many different type teams that win Superbowls. Our DE’s are average and getting better, but our DT’s especially Williams can be dominant. So maybe win a Superbowl with average ends and dominant DT play!
Chiefs come to mind. Jones was their Ace

Man, that safety would be awesome. I forget his name. But the guy is a baller.

I would pay him whatever he wants on a short deal. Maybe a 2 year deal. He's been so good over the last 4 games actually.
