Let's talk about Overshown

Overshown is a perfect example of a great player in the wrong body. His legs will never allow him to play 17 games.

Along with Bland and Bell, he could be a candidate for the Big Nickel Position.

40 yard dash 4.56 seconds

Overview

Former safety turned linebacker who has slowly but surely improved his feet and recognition over the last three seasons. Whether playing inside or outside, Overshown will need to get stronger and more effective at taking on blockers and tackling with security. His tape shows much improved key reading and play recognition, which could prove critical in allowing him to play at a consistently faster pace to the football. Overshown could struggle to hold up to downhill running attacks, but his instincts and blitz talent create a potential opportunity for him as a nickel/dime linebacker.

Strengths

  • Made huge strides at the position from 2021 to 2022.
  • Displays adequate patience to diagnose and process.
  • Hustles downhill to meeting point when he trusts his eyes.
  • Excellent awareness to routes when dropping into coverage.
  • Athletic blitzer when his number is called.

Let’s first assume that Overshown is completely healthy to start this season. What EXACTLY is Overshown capable of being in Parker’s new defense?

Will Overshown be used as a linebacker? Will he primarily be used at edge/OLB? Or does he have the speed to be used as one of the safeties in this defense?

It doesn’t seem like his body is designed to hammer OGs as a linebacker. But as an edge he would seem to have speed to burn.

Can he drop 10 pounds and be one of the better safeties in football? Getting this right might have a huge effect on this defense.

Can he be the “in the box” safety for the Cowboys in place of Wilson? Can he cover?
Really good post.
Is he a Swiss Army knife like the Ravens use Kyle Hamilton?
I don't know by last year's return from surgery film.

But just maybe the additional time off since the last surgery has finally allowed him the time required to re-show his downhill burst type of speed he had flashed early on is still there.

IF that is the case, I would hope Parker could figure out where to put him in the best role to succeed.

How many starting 220 lbs OLB in the NFL , in a 3-4 scheme that we well know of ..?

- you don't see that because they are way too small ...vs 340+ OTs in rush situations and almost every down basis.

- i really don't like that smallish size as MLB, .either , and we really gotta have some cloggers along that DL to protect him.

- plus he'll have to learn the new middle LB role .. much less the scheme

- but this becomes a case of " try it out and see if we can get away with him. " because Overshown has shown special attrbutes an skill set in very limited time, and we're trying to salvage a high draft pick.

- and imo, it's not about Overshown starting the season healthy... but more so, somehow miracuously " remaining healthy throughout ..
Dude has instincts, burst, range and a good knack for blittzing. but his very suspect durability issues has made him so limited available and a questionable future.
Smallish LB's in a 3-4:

Roquan Smith: 230
Zack Baun: 225
Dre Greenlaw: 230
Lavonte David: 233
Patrick Queen: 230
Nakobe Dean: 231
Robert Spillane: 229
Blake Cashman: 235

So, in answer to your question, almost all of them are around that weight. BTW, those were all listed as top ten 3/4 ILBs.

Overshown is a LBer, in a SS's body. If he stays healthy the Boys have a hell of a ball player, but that's a huge IF!

230ish.....vs 220ish...(overshown)

We'll just have to see if hes one of those players that plays much bigger than what their size suggests...provided he stays healthy, has front trenches that help keep him clean, and he makes adjustment to yet another new incoming defensive scheme .. much

Overshown is depth imo

Let him play the joker role i guess, but i draft or sign people at his spot to be starters

Will take a toll on his already slim body

Wow, can't believe how many people act like he sucks or is backup-level. He's one of the best players we have on defense, and smart too.

To my eye, he looks like damaged goods. This season will determine a lot as to whether he will ever get back to 100%.
