Let's Talk About The Eagles

In 2019 the Eagles will lose players just like most teams will. They are 30 million over the cap but cutting foles saves 20 million and jason peters is expected to retire which saves another 10 mil. Now our starter free agents will be ajayi (replaced by clement), brandon graham (wrong side of 30 replaced by barnett), Jordan hicks (our sean lee always hurt but no replacement on the roster) paul worrilow (suspect starter), ronald darby (replaced by sidney jones). If the eagles sign nelson agholor to a long term deal (free agent 2020) they should have enough cap room to resign jordan hicks. So i am expecting to lose 4 starters but we have depth. In 2020 we have 42 players signed to contracts and are 42 million under the cap. Our free agents will be wentz, vaitai, wisnewski, agholor (if not resigned in 2019) and jalen mills. The eagles should be able to sign 3 of the 5 free agents. Depending on who we draft will dictate which ones are priority. The eagles could also restructure contracts if they need more cap space. Not really sure how you think the eagles future is compromised but would like to hear it. Oh, and we were over the cap last year too.

Dallas has 50 million in cap space next year with the starter free agents being Geoff swain, jamaize olawale, tavon austin, cole beasley, demarcus lawrence, david irving, damian wilson. Probably could keep them all but i think they resign either austin or beasley, lawrence and irving. Should leave them atleast 15 million to sign 2 quality free agents (I don't think any big name receivers or TE's become free agents in 2019). In 2020 dallas will be 112 under the cap but only have 36 players signed to contracts. Starter free agents will be prescott, elliot, la'el collins, maliek collins, sean lee, byron jones, anthony brown, jeff heath. 50 million will go to prescott, elliot, and la'el collins. Things change year to year but right now i'd say the eagles future looks a little more stable than the cowboys.

Despite disliking the Eagles and doubling up on my contempt regarding their fans, I've gotta give credit to their FO, their HC and the rebound they made from the throes of disfunction to their Super Bowl season. It was quite a surprising transition they made by any standard one might prefer.

Whether or not they manage to continue their success remains to be seen, although there's no doubt but what they're on the right track now. At present, we're lagging behind and trying desperately to catch up. To the victor go the spoils. Let's face it, Jerry & Son have their work cut out for them, no doubt. If that's what it takes to wake 'em up and inspire smarter and more intense management, I'm all for it and then some.

Dallas has to step up in several key areas to
stack up against Philly.
QB play - can Dak take that next step? Can Price & this Antwon Woods cat that they signed solidify the 1T? It's a hard sell, but
T-McClain was a bargain bin player that worked out. Safety- I think Woods has a shot
to be a playmaker at FS, but let's see it.
SS? I'm actually pretty optimistic about reciever - Hurns is a good route runner and a nice target for Dak, Gallup was a great route runner in college & good size. Thompson & Austin have serious wheels. Still have Beasley & Williams and you can do much worse than them IMO. TE is the big concern.
LB has huge potential to either be great or terrible IMO. Two talented but injury guys in Lee and Smith and LVE is a rookie.
 
Garrett may not call the plays but the game where we passed 3 times within the 2 yard line, he should have over ruled a couple of those calls, trying to force something when it wasnt there and you have the highest paid OL in the game. SMH

I've always despised the Eagles the most of any of the NFCE teams, even during the George Allen Commanders rivalry days. The only other NFL team I despised more were the Steelers. I didn't even despise the Packers even though they broke this little boy's heart back-to-back in 66 and 67. However, I do respect what they've done, just as I respect the Steelers. I actually felt a tinge of happiness seeing the male and female cops dancing on the street together celebrating during their parade. However, I'm not looking forward to December 9 at the Stadium - it's going to be miserable listening to those obnoxious, yappy Eagles fans when I can't point out that they've never won a Super Bowl. Guess we'll just have to win that game.

Yes,I am sad to say the Eagles will have success for the forseeable future while we muddle in mediocrity. Sigh, perhaps one day Jerry will value winning more than being comfortable and wanting to say he is the main reason we won because it ain't happening until he does. I mean the man said what is in my signature which is all we need to know about Jerry to realize everything is an exercise in futility until he passes on the reigns but even then I am not sure Stephen wouldn't be just as bad. Until then we are stuck with mediocre coaches so Jerry can say he is the reason we won yet we never win it all.

Don't be too quick to gloss over that $30 million + that all-universe Carson Wentz''s agent will demand.

Dàk on the other hand being such a poor game manager type should cost the Cows half of what Wentz will.
 
I'd trade all the cap hell for 10 years for a Super Bowl. Yes I know cap hell is imaginary. I'm a firm believer that it can be manipulated and cap rises a bunch every year so you can be creative and recover quickly.

Well to be fair, there was also a bit of luck involved. Like trading up for wentz, that would've hurt them a lot more if it wasn't for the Vikes. >.>

This is pretty much true. It’s why I roll my eyes when I read posts saying the Eagles (or any team really) will have to ‘purge’ their roster and then they will be done.

It’s true that it becomes more challenging when a big contract is due for a QB, but if that QB is a really good one that elevates the players around him...and there is good coaching...a team can stay a perennial contender during that QB’s prime years.

I explained how the eagles would be getting around the 30 million, maybe you misread it.

Carson and dak are both good qb's that will be getting paid, but since wentz was a 1st round pick the team has a 5th year option so they can hold off 1 more year before he gets the big contract. The cowboys don't have that with dak.

My glasses are filled with superbowl green tint, please recognize.

Nope, I was happy to see them win. It was shining example of what a real team with real coaching can get you. They had all the injuries that the Cowboys had, but they didnt fold. The coaches had a new QB in their and they tailored the offense to suit the QB. Unlike Garrett still trying to fit Dak into a Romo friendlly offense.

Likely excellent QB play, elite in the OL (comparable to Dallas) & DL, good back 7, good weapons on offense.

Dallas has the horrid Garrett and a lame DL and defense while Philly has a great Defense and amazing coaching.

I believe the "comparable to Dallas" was referring only to the offensive line.
