unless it's a position switch where he has more a chance to compete for a long term starter, i just dont get why they re-signed him to that kind of contract .
Even if Brown was outta the picture, Lewis would still being going up against 3rd rd draftee Lashon Wright for that 3rd CB role, .and then that would be big money to a 4th CB ?

several times i've always heard and observed Stephen Jones implying that you don't give average players good money.
well Jordan is an average player, a backup reserve, a limited pure slot guy but they gave him a contract like he was gonna be one of their 3 best starting CBs.?

Unless it's a move to FS where he could compete against 1 year rental or prove it with FA vet Damontae Kazee, i just don't see it .. i just dont get ..
I wonder if Jason Verrett wouldn't have taken that same deal.

He is a much better player.

It seems he wants to be home in NCal....but he did go to TCU.

If this season ends with Diggs and Joseph as the clear starters moving ahead....I don't see how the Lewis salary is justified.

Half of it is guaranteed, so if they part ways after this year.....it's 8m for him for this year.

Classic case of them setting their own market and/or bidding against themselves on one of their own.

LOL. Lewis is funny. Poor thing didn't expect to be re-signed. That's what I like about Jerry & Son, they DO give players 2nd chances. In ALL categories.

He was getting picked up by a team. He would have had many suitors.
I'm glad he is a Cowboy and not a Giant, or Eagle or WFT Whatever.

He's going to be in the box. Where's in the box?

In the box is up around the line of scrimmage, i.e., DL and LB, SC.....
Go back to Jimmy Johnson's philosophy...

If they stack THE BOX, (bring up 8 around the line) we pass to back'em off.
Sounds like slot corner is where he'll play where he'll have run, pass, and blitz responsibilities.

I will say this about Lewis, he gives his all and is not afraid to tackle. Decent speed. I don't mind seeing him out there.
He does tend to gamble and try to make highlight reels too much. That is his one negative in my opinion.

Wrong. He’s probably our 3rd best corner and was maybe even best one last season.

I would say Diggs, then eventually Joseph. Then probably Lewis or Brown. In a suspect secondary he is the 3rd or 4th best corner. Yep, hes a JAG. How many corners do you think teams keep?

Was always a fan of Lewis. Was a rather strange extension especially with what Quinn is after. Will be interesting to see his progress this season
i think...like us,the fans...he likes the "football stuff" with Lewis.
he may not be 6'1 but his heart is too tall Jones.
love his physicality...not afraid to stick his nose in there.
tough as nails.
love his football character.
good dude.
as a fan...easy to root for.

Lewis going to a divisional rival would not have scared me in the least, ..that's an average slot CB who cannot handle speed on the outside, and
he routinely gives up catches, big plays or illegal yellow flags,.. that's no different than Orlando Scandrick going to Washington or Philly.

Lewis would completely chewed up having to play vs Cooper- Lamb or Gallup. ,and giving us same illegal flags or big play catches.

He’s the best slot CB we have.

I'm not sure what/where he is referring to, safety?

“I’m going to be in the box,” Lewis said. “I’m going to be able to make plays around the field and move around the field. It’s going to be cool.”

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/jourdan-lewis-appears-finally-defined-121508199.html

I believe it refers to the fact that Quinn will be using a center-field safety, so Lewis will be playing zone underneath as the slot corner. He's going to be playing under a lot of routes instead of chasing receivers downfield. That will give him the chance to read and break on the ball instead of shadowing.

I could be wrong about that, but I believe that's what he's referring to. He's not going to simply line up against the field and follow him everywhere. He may start off taking the receiver off the line and then passing him on in order to drop into a zone.

In OTAs, it has been reported that he's been playing the slot corner spot, so this explanation would jibe with that.

Use Lewis right and he can be a really nice player. Is Quinn going to play him to his strength’s? That remains to be seen.

I certainly hope so and keeping him around the line of scrimmage with his eyes on the QB will be a great start.

I knew they had to have a plan for him after they re-signed him to that contract.

He's a niche player IMO. Match him up in DIME against receiving RBs or a team that relies heavily on shorter inside routes from the WRs. JMO but I don't think he's a guy you can just line up anywhere and expect him to win matchups vs WRs. Like you said, hopefully they have a specific role for him

It's sounding to me like we're going to have a lot of 'specialist' players on this defense. Guys who will have very specific roles and packages depending on down, distance, and situation. Much more specialization than I can remember.

I still think they overpaid for him.....considering what some other guys got elsewhere, and the team supposedly cap strapped.

Guess they didn't want 2017 to look like a total waste.
The 41st highest paid CB
Kinda hard to be over paid lol
