Word is that Peterman has shown more then in the past- but that Kosier is expected to start. I am hoping that Peterman can at least push Kosier. I have not heard much about Proctor at all.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Proctor and Peterman are also trying out center.

Sounds to me that they are being targetted for swing duty and aren't real threats to start.

I hope Peterman can show something- if he doesn't then he ahs to be considered a bust if all he can do is back up.

Who ever goes out and earns the job. I want to see Peterman push Kosier for a starting job on this team.

Just kills me about our bad luck with OL these past few years.

Gurode, Peterman, Rogers. All backups or rejects.

Even Johnson is someone BP is looking to replace.

well Johnson has started 2 full years; Gurode has started almost 2 full years between his rookie year and 2004. So calling him a backup is not quite accurate. Peterman - the verdict is still out. But of course to Eddie its always the pessimistic side.

Pessimistic is correct in regards to the OL.

Gurode was a starter cuz we had nothing else. If he was so good, we wouldn't have brought in Kosier at $3 mil a year. He's been a disappointment at best.

There's no verdict on Peterman, he can't even smell the field.

Johnson has been adequate ... no complaints. But something is amiss when BP is constantly trying to replace him.

So when it comes to drafting OL over the past 5 years, it's been a big fat F.

Sorry, it is what it is. Spin the positives as much as you want, but the bottom line is we've done a pizz poor job of drafting OL the past 5 years ...

OL has been a problem for almost a decade, and still remains a problem. Yes, it's pessimistic.

But you will not even admit that its getting better at all. Yes we have missed on O line like no other position except QB over the last 5 years (before that it was DE's) but this year it looks better and we at least have good depth. Fabini and Kosier are solid pickups. And our young guys are looking a lot better. the disaster that was Rogers really weighs us down lately. BUT that was only one guy.

This is the biggest battle in camp this year. Kosier may have the inside track based solely on his starting experience, but I wouldn't say he has much of an edge.

Hold it, I didn't say it wasn't getting better. I just said we drafted poorly.

drafting is always a crapshoot. Reading the scouting reports on Gurode and Johnson and Peterman they all looked like good picks. Rogers is the one that BP really messed up on- the warnings were there.

I didn't know much about Johnson and Peterman, but I was high on Gurode. He had a first round grade, and may draft guides had him going in the top 15 in the first round.

Call it bad luck.

The sad part of it is that we have had more success down in the later rounds than the first day. OT Rob Petitti was drafted #209 in the 6th rd. & started every game last year as a rookie. It's been said he has increased his bench press by over 100 lbs. in the off-season, so he will come back even stronger. The guy we drafted this year, OT/OG Pat McQuistan, was picked #211 in the 7th rd. From what I've read, he is almost exactly the same size, & has as much or more athletic ability, as his twin brother Paul. Paul was drafted at the top of the 3rd rd. by Oakland. The only reason Pat lasted a lot longer is that he has one less year of experience than Paul.

I wouldn't doubt it if he became an intregral part of the offensive line by some time next season. Dude is said to be one of the meanest, most competitive players you'll ever see. He also has quick feet & good strength. Obviously, he is very green, & is going to need a year or so to learn good technique, and to be more consistent. He's big, mean, and loves to destroy his man. As for me, I would rather have a guy like that, (see Petitti), than a Rogers type who has all the technique in the world, but no cohonas.

Anyway, maybe that's our secret. Just wait until all the so-called sure things are gone, and take the guy everybody passed.....haha.

Like Tuinei, Newton, Gogan, Erik Williams. Heck, we've won three Super Bowls with general nobodies along the OL.

We've wiffed on a few high round draft picks lately ... started with Soloman Page.

I think Proctor and Peterman trying out at center has more to do with Al Johnson. If Al doesn't outright win the starting gig against Gurode his roster spot might be in jeopardy due to his lack of versatility.

I think Parcells is trying out other bodies at center should Gurode win the starting center gig because he'd like his back-up center to have more versatility than Al Johnson.

I thought Page was a late round pick or UFA because he had a broken leg his senior season? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I agree that we have sucked at drafting oline for a while.

Page was actually a 2nd round draft pick. Then again, he did start for 4 years. But we didn't ask him back.
