Like It Or Not: The Dallas Cowboys Will Look To Their Own To Improve Pass Rush
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2017...wn-to-improve-pass-rush-nfl-draft-free-agents

...The Cowboys’ pass rushing woes have been lamented over and over again as the reasoning behind the unfortunate early departures from the playoffs in both 2014 and 2016. We’ve established the fact that the Cowboys need some help defensively to take it to the next level and they hope to fix their pass rush as best they can this offseason.

For some folks, it will not suffice until the Dallas Cowboys sign a premium pass rusher via the draft or free agency. Here’s the issue; it’s not going to happen. Sure, the Cowboys could very well find a solid fit at 28 for a pass rusher but he’s going to need development. As far as free agency is concerned, look for names like Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford, not Jason Pierre-Paul or Lorenzo Alexander. They’re just not interested in offering out big dollars for guys they don’t know will fit.

It’s been quite a few years since the Cowboys have had a double-digit sack artist in now retired Jason Hatcher in 2013. It’s been since 2011 since they were in the Top-10 in terms of sacks on the field. Finding premium pass rushers is not an easy task and the Cowboys have done a lot in that time to hope to fix their problems. The one thing they haven’t done is throw big money at the problem but why would they? Just because something like that may work out for the New York Giants doesn’t mean it’ll work out for you...

Cowboys Need to Break Frugal Ways This Off-Season
http://cowboyszone.com/2017/02/cowboys-need-to-break-frugal-ways-this-off-season.html

...It’s the right approach that most of the top organizations in the league adhere to and it takes discipline to operate this way. In the limited sample size, the results have been positive for Dallas, they are getting the right fits for the best price on the market. Not overspending has allowed them to keep their young core of talent, supplement the roster and should see them thrive for years to come.

However, if there was a year to loosen up the purse strings and go big game fishing, this is it. The Cowboys might not be one player away (I think that theory only seriously applies to quarterbacks), but they are one big upgrade away from becoming a major threat to win the Super Bowl for years to come. With the good, young quarterback on the roster, to go along with the stud running back with fresh legs, a great wide receiver, and a dominant offensive line, the Cowboys have everything in place on offense to continue to make serious playoff runs every season.

The defense can do more than come along for the ride, IF they spend the money on the team’s biggest weakness. It’s no secret that Dallas needs a major upgrade at pass rusher and there are a few about to hit the open market. The Cowboys don’t need to make a habit of spending big money in free agency, but this year might be the exception....

Oh my god. The last 3 years it's the same story. Pass rush and defense fails the team miserably, everyone and their mother knows it's the glaring #1 need.

A little time goes by and it turns into, "Nevermind. Forget that any chance of competing was destroyed on the back of our nonexistent pass rush and journeyman defense, there's no need to get anyone that can play. We'll just sign a nobody and pray."

The pass rush will be a little better than last year, and actually has some potential if they can stay healthy, but they are the definition of unreliable.

But still, if they don't get somebody on the line that can play, we're not going anywhere.

Based on last year, David Irving is damn near the only thing going right now this DL... they need help.

While more sacks are needed, your statement is not true... Collins played darned well for a rookie and had 5 sacks for DT who played about 600 snaps.

Mayowa came on towards the end of the year and had 6 sacks in less than 400 snaps which is a good ratio.

I'll grant you that more skill at the DE spot has to happen, but there are bright spots on the defensive line.

I think I read where Jerry Jones said something to the effect of "this isn't the end" with regard to Gregory's latest suspension. That has me wondering if either he or the team will be challenging the ruling somehow?
I read the same.......got the same results as you????

Anyone know the end on Jerry's statement? Other than 1-yr

I don't know, Stash...Jerry doesn't much buck the NFL norm unless his pocket book is under scrutiny.

I'm not sure it's worth it really,,, if they're just going to tackle and hold your pass-rushers anyway, why bother? Then again, if you've got 4 or 5 really good pass-rushers they may not be able to hold them all. I guess the answer is either get yourself a platoon of pass rushers or don't bother.

That's true. He hasn't been quite the Maverick that he was back in the '90's.

Marching out the same crud and expecting better results is insane.

Atlanta is looking to bolster their defense to go with their top tier offense and we wanna march out mayowa, tank, Irving, Crawford. Yawn

It's a bit more tolerable to me than the alternative of overpaying for a Mario Addison or JPP and then crying about how the guy only put up 7 sacks for the $15 million a year we're stuck paying him for 3 years and counting the days until we can get out of the deal.

True enough. If my 13-15 million dollar player got 7 sacks, I'd be unhappy. If he got 9, I'd be Luke warm. If he got 10, I'd be happy. If he got 11-15, shoooooot that's great!

Any names out there that fit the "11-15" range of "great"? If so, I've missed them.

Irving has real potential but outside of him we have little to nothing that will improve our pass rush. DLaw was a big disappointment last season and may not see a second contract with the Cowboys so we have to get busy and find a solid edge rusher unless the goal is to continue to falter in the divisional round every time we make the playoffs.
