This is the counter...

Cowboys Need to Break Frugal Ways This Off-Season
http://cowboyszone.com/2017/02/cowboys-need-to-break-frugal-ways-this-off-season.html

...It’s the right approach that most of the top organizations in the league adhere to and it takes discipline to operate this way. In the limited sample size, the results have been positive for Dallas, they are getting the right fits for the best price on the market. Not overspending has allowed them to keep their young core of talent, supplement the roster and should see them thrive for years to come.

However, if there was a year to loosen up the purse strings and go big game fishing, this is it. The Cowboys might not be one player away (I think that theory only seriously applies to quarterbacks), but they are one big upgrade away from becoming a major threat to win the Super Bowl for years to come. With the good, young quarterback on the roster, to go along with the stud running back with fresh legs, a great wide receiver, and a dominant offensive line, the Cowboys have everything in place on offense to continue to make serious playoff runs every season.

The defense can do more than come along for the ride, IF they spend the money on the team’s biggest weakness. It’s no secret that Dallas needs a major upgrade at pass rusher and there are a few about to hit the open market. The Cowboys don’t need to make a habit of spending big money in free agency, but this year might be the exception....
Its a little of both for me. That "difference maker" in free agency is gonna cost so much more then they are worth. However, after cuts there should be some veterans that can come in as pass rush specialist with a much lower price tag

I get that the FO doesn't want to panick and overpay for a player (or two) but you have to, HAVE TO, address this defensive line. If they don't take it serious this off-season than I may just give up all hope on this team.

if they want to be taken as a serious contender then they need to do a lot of work on the defense if they don't 2017 will be along season with missing the playoffs as a possibility they play several very good defensive teams this upcoming season and good qb and offensive teams as well

Picking 28 and with little established talent on the FA market they have little choice.

Keep bringing in young guys and developing them but that takes time and is unlikely going to have a transcendent impact in 2017. Collins, Irving, Crawford, and DLaw need to improve.

Aaron Rogers was laughing at the defenders you just listed, didn't even bother to fasten his chin strap because he knew they couldn't get to him.

If the plan is for those same guys to just improve, I don't see Rogers losing a lot of sleep over it.

They don't have to spend $18MM on a DE to improve the pass rush.

But thinking what they have is good enough is fool's gold.
More like fool's brass...perhaps fool's tin...not even good enough to be fake gold...

Gregory showed he belongs......and has a future

Now if he can just stay "un-suspended"
Jerry needs to use all his influence to change the drug policy and omit cannabis from the banned substances as it is in the NBA. Otherwise Gregory might have to move to Canada or something.

Problem is that Gregory is gone most of 17 right now, so I doubt any change is going to be retroactive and his suspension reduced.

Best for the team to just pretend Gregory is no longer on the team and draft accordingly.

The pass rush will not improve until RM is gone, I lost use for RM on that last GB pass play, 3-20 and you bring very little pressure...we keep blaming the players on this team...it's the coaching, ever since JG been here, this team sucks in December and January...

That will start with the team's efforts to improve their D-line's offseason hobbies.

Is it the talent or the scheme? I know NE is the holy grail, but how do they do it? They get rid of their best defensive player and don't miss a beat. Maybe get players who fit our scheme, if we're not going to get rid of the DC.

I understand "looking within" but that's not ur only option. It is time for this team to pull the trigger on a impact pass rusher. If you have to drop big money than do it. you Can still draft edge rusher also

Helps when your OL is able to hold like they were. Also you seem to forget what Irving did on the game vs GB before that one.

If you want to give up before it has even begun have at it though.

They have to. It's the price you pay when you've struck out over a 3-5 year period at a given position. They key is overpaying for a guy who at least produces at a respectable clip, and not one who is completely underwhelming. They have a couple of nice pieces but they're kidding themselves thinking they can get it done with those pieces and the 50/50 chance a rookie can immediately make a noticeable difference. Identify a FA that you feel will produce consistently over a 3 year period and sign him. Nobody will complain about the cost if said player is producing.
